Allen v Davis

Just sitting down to watch this, on closer scrutiny i give Davis a good shout here. Mark Davis has been a pro since the early '90's, has never fulfilled his potential fully but I recall him knocking Doherty out in the first round in Sheffield in 1996, the following year Ken gained revenge, just! and beat Davis 10-8 in the first round on his way to winning his world title.

Davis won the recent world 6 red tournament in Killarney, that and a new fitness regime seems to have lifted his standard of play.
Allen of course will be favourite but it will be close.

Mark D seems to be great at the moment. He's had a decent first frame and looks like taking the second too now. Mark A never really had to produce top stuff in the first round but you can see him raising the bar if needed. You just get the feeling that this one will be tight.

Remember it well, wasn't it then the other Davis (Steve) in the second round, John Higgins in the quarter, Robidoux (IIRC) in the semi and of course Hendry in the final.

Allen is playing great stuff. Wouldn't be surprised if he reached the Final

Allen 5-3 ahead after first session, good session for both players, although Davis should really be level,he did well to win the eight frame to go into tomorrows second session.
