Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I have a Nikon D300 camera and have been looking at buying a 35mm lens.
A friend recommended the AF Nikkor 1.2D. Anyone got any suggestions?

as far as I know there's no such thing as a Nikkor 35mm f/1.2. Your friend was maybe talking about the 35mm f/2.0 which is an older AFD lens. With your D300 though the ideal one to get would be the newer 35mm f/1.8 AFS. It's specifically designed for DX cameras, more up to date optics, AF system, and coatings apparently than the older AFD model (although in real shooting scenarios these differences would most likely be un-noticeable).

I havent heard of a 35mm f1.2, i would imagine its very expensive, unless is it a manual focus lens?

Im looking for a 35mm lens, what im considering is the 35mm f1.8 or the 35-70 f3.5-4.5 as its super cheap and supposedly quite good.

Im looking for other options, if i had more money i might get the 35-70mm f2.8, it sounds very god, its about 350 euro second hand. There is also the sigma 30mm f1.4 which is about 300 i think.

    Sigma 30mm f1.4 is outstanding

If you have an APS-C Nikon (like your D300), you should get the AF-S 35mm f/1.8. It's really cheap, great optical performance, and will supposedly cover full frame 35mm with minimal vignetting at larger apertures. It looks like a great lens, and buying it is an absolute no-brainer.

I wish Canon made something similar.

You're correct. The lens was a 35mm f/2.0. Thanks for the advice
