Dwindling viewers would suggest we probably will not get another season. If so, thats a pity. Really enjoy/enjoyed it (whichever is appropriate).

    What kinda show is it?

Great to see it back. Is the psycho 'friend' back too. She was great in it last time.

    What kinda show is it?

A pretty dark cop show/triller where the main guy, Luther is brilliant detective but has a couple of screws loose, his wife left him and he has this brilliant psycho-killer 'friend' who he couldn't catch or arrest but she is always helping him in her sadist way.

I thought it was a great show...different than your run of the mill cop shows.

Back 14th of June at 9pm on BBC1
Luther (Idris Elba) returns as the near-genius murder detective. A year after the death of estranged wife Zoe and best friend Ian Reed's betrayal, Luther remains tortured by the past, as the drama starring Idris Elba as the near-genius murder detective returns.

While Alice bides her time in a psychiatric unit and Ripley languishes in uniform, Luther has been shut away with dusty files working on cold cases. His only solace exists in his newfound friendship with Mark North and their late-night chess games – forever bonded by the person that once divided them: Zoe.

Former investigating officer Martin Schenk offers Luther a role in the new Serious and Serial Unit, and Luther accepts. He is determined to devote his energy to reinstating DS Justin Ripley as a rising star in the police force and help those who he inadvertently hurt or compromised in the past, including Alice.

The team, complete with the new addition of ambitious DS Erin Gray, is immediately faced with a surreal and nightmarish case. They must catch a man who hides behind a Punch mask as he brutally murders his victims. Luther quickly concludes that this man is obsessed with fairytale and mythology and is determined to enter into historical folklore himself by accomplishing one final devastating set piece.

Luther's focus is disrupted by the arrival of Caroline Jones, the wife of a man Luther committed to prison long ago. Caroline blames Luther for the destruction of her family and now demands his help to rescue her daughter, Jenny.

got to love the difference between European and American TV, In America if everyone isn't over the moon with a show it's cancelled straight away. In Europe there seems to be more of a feeling something that's good has to be made and if people don't like it that's their problem.

I was concerned I may be let down by the second series having really enjoyed the first but one episode in & my worries appear unwarranted, that was a great opener, I can't wait for the rest

I enjoy it while its on but the elements that make up Luther are now getting rather hackneyed what with wi-fi equipped perverts and internet porn. Still I'll stick with it and Alice, well Alice looks like she could just vanish and then materialise with a flap of her arms!

    Do we need spoilers?

Was Punch in the back of the Car or did the Cop (Ripley) fall asleep?? Luther has a cool walk.

I assume the porn plot will take on a much greater significance as the series goes on, at least I hope it will.
I like to see ''crime dramas'' including newer technology, even if it does take away from the realism a little, too many detective tv shows are still working on the ''we got an anonymous text message, we'll never solve this one'' premise which with how things are now, seems even more far fetched, there can't be that many technophobic detectives!
Was the father of the girl appearing in the porn featured in the first series? I have a complete mind blank on that one.

I don't think so,I think they said she was a little girl (or a fair bit younger at least) when Luther was involved with her dad,and the mum said "she was self harming at 12", so before the time of the first series. I'm open to correction though!

Caught up over the last week.. honestly, one of the most entertaining shows the Beeb has done in years.

Top-notch performances, interesting characters, great music choices, genuine shocks and some damn fine writing at times.

    Really excellent stuff!

Definitely Basq. It is great to see BBC turning out such quality!

Jesus, the second episode was pretty damned bleak. The preview for the third episode looks excellent. It's actually criminal how underrated this show appears to be.

I thought the ex girlfriend might have let him in the car when they got out of the car....but also could have been he fell asleep. it wasn't made clear really how.

Very impressed by last night's episode. The finale is shaping up to be quite brilliant if last night was anything to go by

Is there anything quite as "ikky" as a nutter with a hammer going mad? The scenes in the office block were well handled - you saw nothing but it was pretty shocking.
