    Hi

Thinking of moving to Cork, I currently live in North Wales. So my question is are you an easy going crowd? How is it in Cork for strangers?

Most of the cork people are a very cheery crowd and are sound out. Just come to one of the meets ups from this forum and you will find out :)

Don't mind that peoples republic of cork forum. Its pretty much un-moderated so anything you post there is going to be met with a pretty un-satisfactory reply.

I find it alright, I moved over from the U.K many moons ago.
but eh I did find it pretty hard to make friends here, as long as you're open/chatty and like to gossip you should be just fine :D:D:D

I have actually met most of the PRoC peeps, and they are sound. As it was pointed out, the unmoderated-ness leads to a mixture of The Cuckoo's Nest and The Thunderdome.

But Cork is a great place to live. If you an get a job...

    welcome-to-cork.jpg

Hopefully you'll be seeing something like this soon :)

That fact you've been offered and job in a city/county that has some of the nicest people and the most fantastic scenery in the country makes your offer one not to pass on. ;)

    Good kuck with it.

    Alrite Rosie,

I moved back to Cork in August after spending 2 years in Wales. For the the most part Cork people are pretty friendly, open and helpful. Like everywhere else in the world you will find the odd few that are not sometimes. When I moved to Wales I did have concerns about making friends because I didn't know a single person there but you have to take opportunities to get out and meet people when they present themselves. I'm sure if you did move here a boards meet up could be your first port of call. Everyone here seems exceptionally friendly and then after that you could have opportunities through housemates and workmates.

I found the Irish and Welsh have a lot in common. They're both laid back, have a good sense of humour, quick witted and friendly. You probably wouldn't experience any culture shock if you were to move over here.

Rule 1. Never ever criticise anything about Cork.
Rule 2. Even when drunk, high or talking in your sleep,
always be mindful of Rule 1.
Rule 3. When a Corkonian criticises an aspect of Cork,
always, always turn a negative into a positive.
E.g. When a local complains about the rain, merely
retort, "Ah sure all ye have to do hereabouts is
wait 15 minutes and the sun will be out again."
Using this tactic is inadvisable during the hours of
    darkness.
Rule 4. When you first meet any Corkonian within a few minutes
they will inevitably ask, "And how do you like it here?"
To which there is only one answer, "I love it here! Its
a beautiful city, Corkonians are sooooooooo friendly and
welcoming and I love being able to walk to so many
places in the city itself." "I tell all my friends, they just
have to visit and I think I may never leave. It feels just
like home. There's nowhere I'd rather be."
Rule 5. Everyone hates the English. Learn your local history and
never waste an opportunity to remind the feckers of the
    potato famine.
Rule 6. Cork is so like Venice. Both are built on islands. Cork is nicer.
Rule 7. Yes, you love rugby and yes you do support Munster.
Rule 8. In Spring, Summer and early Autumn, you will decamp
at weekends to West Cork, or if you must .... to Kerry.
Rule 9. RedFM is actually kinda cool.
Rule 10. The Cork accent is the best sounding accent in Ireland
    if not the inhabited world.
Rule 11. You may shop in Tesco, but you always carry your groceries
in a Dunnes bag. Why? 'Because we're [now] Irish'.
Rule 12. Everything that ever goes wrong in Ireland, has its roots
in the English occupation, if you look hard enough.
Rule 13. Only tourists drink Guinness. You drink Murphys.
Rule 14. You read the Examiner and The Echo.
Rule 15. When you marry locally, you'll be giving your kids Irish
    names.
Rule 16. At the first opportunity you'll be renouncing your British
citizenship by returning your passport to the FCO with a
note reminding them of the potato famine. You'll then be
getting an Irish passport and attendance at the St Patricks
    Day Parade will be mandatory.
Rule 17. Wear lots of natural fabrics in atumnal colours with sensible
shoes. Alternatively, if under 25, evening wear from Pennys is
    mandatory.
Rule 18. Learn the rules of the road. Traffic lights and road signs and
markings are advisory only. Lane discipline is not allowed and
fog lights must be kept on at all times......except in fog.
Rule 19. Mahon Point is the biggest and best shopping centre in the world.
Rule 20. Theres nowhere on God's green earth that you'd rather be than in
    Cork! :D

I'm surprised you didn't feel safe in Cork. I thought some places in Wales were well dodgy when I was living there.
