Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

This is not bad beer at all at all. Was 1.39 which I considered cheap even then, but saw it in my local Aldi at 1.09 today

Aldi's St. Etienne is a lovely beer too, usually somewhere between 99cent and 1.09

I doubt that, people are drawing conclusions based on it having the same bottle and tasting similar.

It is a good beer but not Krusovice, even if it is equally nice :)

There does seem to be a few People saying the same thing.........

People seems to be using this crowncaps.org Site as proof - Is new to me but have a look at this link.

Also just discovered that Tescos Vratislav lager is brewed by Staropramen which are a very higly regarded Brewery with a generally expensive range of products - At least on the Irish Market.

Very highly regarded by whom exactly?
Surely thats a matter of opinion.
I know many people who aren't impressed by the Staropramen range.
It's a fad in my opinion and wearing off rapidly apparently.
Just because you and some of your "cool" friends like it doesn't mean the general public do my friend:rolleyes:

    C)Questioned your username.
    D)Questioned your post count.

    I could go on.

    So,who is stalking who?

    I call bollocks ;)
    http://www.ceskypivnifestival.cz/en/breweries-and-brewed-beers.shtml

I drank enough of it .. its different to the Aldi Stuff :D

Same as the Belgian beers, Duvel and Vedett share the same bottles and caps but have nothing to do with each other, lots of breweries have agreements for the Pfand/Statiegeld in Germany, The Netherlands and Belgium.

I think Grafenwalder pils from Lidl is better. 99c/can.

Their heffe weissbier is even better again, 1.19/can.

TBH theres not a massive difference between them, their all light which makes them easy to drink.

Far nicer than Heineken/Bud/Carling/Miller etc etc.

I often buy it in the German Aldi, but drink alot of the German beers, I think my favorite at the moment is Schofferhoffer Kristalweizen :D .. yummy.

IMO the beer you buy in Aldi is good if not better than some of the 'Premium beer' you buy in the offies/Tescos and the like, people are just put off by the label.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,018 ✭✭✭Barr

Thanks op , I always get the 15 cans of Carlsberg for €15 in Tesco , but will give this a go as its getting good reports :)

    Never a truer word said!

I'm constantly seeing bottles of p1ss lager in offies going for a few quid, for a 330ml bottle (heineken bud etc)
1.09 for 500ml of this Staroslav (which I have been skulling for a few weeks now) is almost robbing Aldi!
    Honestly folks it's THAT good!

Grabbing a few of these tomorrow so.. these are the 500ml bottles..? are they sold in 6 packs ? I'm liking the small bottles of finkbrau from Lidl at the min as you can have a small one at lunch time.

Damn if anything this recession has taught me to appriciate really good and cheap beer. Something I never thought would exsist in Ireland..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,168 ✭✭✭TM

I'm pretty sure that they're 500ml bottles and sold individually rather than in packs.

Anyone know if the staroslav is still on offer? Or is 1.09 the regular price anyway?

    Thanks.

Flyer in the paper on Sat had it at €1.09 anyway. Think that's the new regular price now.

Great! I usually only drink Guinness, weissbiers and the odd pils, but this stuff has a lovely strong taste to it. Will be stocking up tomorrow, along with some of the Franziskaner thats on offer in Lidl.

Only discovered Staroslav a couple of weeks ago. Can't believe it's so good. I mean, really, really good.

But I notice that it's gone up in price from 1.09 to 1.29. Now, I know that it's still great value at that price, but I'm just wondering if Aldi and Lidl are just having low prices for the time being on all prices in order to attract custom and then increase them gradually over the next couple of years to the same level as Tesco et al?

Hope not. Cause I was under the impression that they were cheap all the time in Germany.

PS it's not just Staroslav that I noticed increasing in price. Other grocery items also.

Every time I go to Aldi in Parnell Street, Dublin 1 they're out of Staroslav. :(

Bottles....looks like 500ml must give it a go though I prefer tins....easier to recycle.

Pleased to hear it's in bottles and not cans, wouldn't touch a beer in a can.
Anyway I dropped in to Aldi Finglas on the way home but sadly not a single Staroslav in sight. :(

Tried yet again in Parnell Street and zilch. Saw it once but unfortunately didn't try it. Giving up on ever getting it in town to be honest. And no other Aldi is convenient for me unfortunately... :(

I'm on a mission to find this stuff now.

    Celbridge: none
    Lucan (Fonthill): none
    Palmerstown: none

The Aldi in Maynooth across from NUIM North Campus usually has it in stock!

Staropramen(very weak and standard) and Gambrinus (super cheap) aren't up to much IMO.
Also Staroslav is quite different to Budvar in terms of taste.
The best or at least my favourite Czech ones are Svijany or Richtář but they're not very popular,
also Pilsner and Budvar are some of the best.
And this comes from living for 10 months studying in CZ!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 38 dolihalix

Krusovice is one of the nicest Czech beers out there, along with Budvar. Staropramen is considered alright back home and alright it is. I suggest you to try it if you haven't, but also have to warn you, you may not like carlsberg or heineken after you drink few cans of this stuff :D

Could not agree with you more, love these two beers. I can not recall if I have tried the St. Etienne......so that is the coming weeks mission.

My brother dropped me in a box of Aldi Staroslav last weekend....in exchange for a keg of home brew. Oh what a beer.

St. Etienne is effectively Stella Artois

The 6 pack of rheinbachers are a nice beer aswell.

P.S. anyone who wouldn,t drink beer that came from a can is a snob.

Is this still on sale in Aldi? And how much is it these days?

Haven't been home in a couple of years so can't call down to my local Aldi.

    Thanks.
