Kick up the excitement levels to ninety with this glamour tie/relegation dog-fight.

With only a slim chance of 4th and the return leg of the European semi-final to come on Thursday, it's tough to know what know of line-up to expect.
There's also the fact that Chelsea are up next weekend.

Dave is a doubt with his back and I have an odd notion that Masch might be rested, with Aquilani coming in. Maxi seems assured of a starting place given his ineligability for European action. Defense pretty much picks itself given the injuries to defenders, unless Rafa decides to given Ayala a run.

A lot will depend on Burnley's attitude given their almost relegated status.
If they lose today they are definately relegated and even a draw means that are pretty much done as well {would have to win both their remaining matches, West Ham would have to lose both their games and they would have to improve their GD by +19} As such you would imagine that they will fight all the way, so it could be a tough game.

    Reina
    --Johnson--Carra--Kyrgiakos-Agger--
    Lucas--Gerrard
    ----Maxi
    Aquilani----Babel

    Kuyt

Subs: Cavailieri, Ayala, Masch, Benayoun, Degen, El Zhar, Pacheo

Injured: Torres, Skrtel, Aurelio, Insua, Dave, Kelly
    Naughty Step : Reira

We've already relegated Hull on the last day to take care of that. :(

Jesus, that is a depressing thought.

On a more optimistic note, if Aquilani gets a start today, which I expect him to, I can see him having a great game. I hope Rafa makes plenty of changes because there is no doubt there will be tired legs from the Athletico game.

    I'd like to see.

    Reina
    Johnson Carra Socky Agger
    Masch Aquilani
    Maxi Gerrard Babel
    N'Gog

I'd love to see Aquilani get a game today, I doubt we will though.

I'm expecting a tough game, Burnley have to win so will be getting stuck in from the off.

That from the usual source Rosco?

Surprised at Ayala getting a game, what with Skrtel and Aurelio in training, with Aurelio back training almost a month now. Would have thought it a good game to give Fabio some gametime. I guess Kyrgiakos is being rested with the Athletico game in mind. Same with Lucas and Yossi.

Lucas drops to the bench again I see. Anything to be read into that?

Yeah he's playing on Thursday, what else would you read into it?

Trying to figure out which Rafa considers his strongest team. Todays or Thursday. Is he resting Lucas or playing Aqua on merit.

It's fcuking mind numbing at times... I think I'd prefer the Lucas/ rafa spending stories compared to the sh1te getting posted recenty.

Yeah i get the each way bit and the burnley defence but why that one player. Whenever you're ready there headshot

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,560 ✭✭✭✭Kess73

I can see Burnley getting caught on the counter. Everytime they go to push out they are leaving three narrow at the back even before the ball gets into the Liverpool half.

Aquilani started really well, spraying the ball all over the place and some lovely touches.

Tyrone Mears deserves relegation for the colour of those boots.

Yeah i get the each way bit and the burnley defence but why that one player.

because liverpool will have plenty of possession in the burnley half, have a high likelihood of winning corners and free kicks around the box and The Greek is as good in the air as anyone on the team and offers good odds at 10 to 1...fairly basic football...

Obviously that all falls apart when he's not on the pitch, but its a good, sensical bet..

In fairness to him, he has done that in most of the games he has started.

aye, it's really frustrating at this point. If he was an actual flop that would be one thing, we could just resign him to the bench and offload, but he's looked one of our best players whenever he's played...

    He's been a flop alright.

How often the manager plays him does play a role in this unfortunately.

From a supporter's pov, it is a little disheartening to watch my team and know that any neutrals watching would struggle to tell which was the relegation battler and which was the team in the semi final of a European competition and also with an outside chance of fourth.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 88,972 ✭✭✭✭mike65

Its been that way for most of the season. I'm not surprised Burnley have got a bit more about them, as its do or die for them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,588 ✭✭✭daithijjj

The amount of times we lose possession when kuyt recieves the ball is unreal. (and not just today but over a whole season).
