Snooker/Pool Cue

My grandad got me a cue because I'm interested in starting to play snooker (I can already play pool and I'm quite good at it). The thing is I don't know whther he got a pool or snooker cue. Waht is the diffreence between the 2 and would using a pool cue effect shots i take while playing snooker?
