Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Is there anybody teaching proper photo mounting?

I've tentatively ruled out full framing for my exhibition in August due to cost, but I am still very interested in correctly mounting and matting, and I would very much like to learn it for myself.

Or alternately, if anybody is giving great deals...

I think Steve (stcstc) at 360-dpi recently obtained a computer controlled mount cutter. I haven't viewed any results as yet but given his standard and reputation for excellence in print around users of this forum, it might be worth a chat.

that's mounting of photos, not mounting in photos.... right?

    Did someone call?

    mounting can mean various techniques

I am assuming what you are talking about is window mounting

if so, the simplest kit you can do it properly with is:

    straight edge
    bevel cutter
    stanley knife
    cutting matt (or something similar)
    decent sharp pencil

reckon if you buy the cheapest will cost you about 50 or 60 euros

or you can spend 13K stg on one of these

the biggest pain about doing it this way is cutting boards down to size and square

there are lots of methods of actually mounting the image

there are lots of factors on which one should be used and when etc

it would take me ages to explain them all here

give me a grand and you can come work for me for a week, i will even pay you 500 euros for the work, :-)

no seriously that course is a little more than you need

if its just window mounting, the basics you could learn in an hr. the different ways to actually hinge the print may take a day to learn

I did a one day intro course with these guys back last September
    http://www.irishschoolofframing.com/

You bring a photo or painting you want to frame. They show you how to measure for the frame and mount window, cut the frame, mount, glass and backboard, and assemble it all together.

You do all the work yourself so it's a good way to learn. And at the end of the day you have a framed picture to bring home.

I think it was about €125 for the day and for me it was well worth it.
