Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

'Worst' Team of the Season

    why the f*ck not?

get some more arguing going, wha???

    ;)

i don't like the title 'worst', but i hope you know what I mean. I don't mean reserve youth players who played two minutes, i mean 'proper' players who just haven't been up to scratch this season.

it should make for angry interesting debate....

    Almunia
    Spector
    Carlisle
    Mears
    Ricketts
    McDonald
    Walcott
    Geovanni
    Riera
    Mido
    Ebanks-Blake

lots of controversial ones in there i know...

Walcott, just doesn't deserve to be held in the esteem he is by some.
    Riera, for being stupid really.
    Mido....enough said.
Ebanks-Blake, for ripping the Championship apart then not being able to hit a barn door.

i could make arguments for all of them, but no need, and not enough time really.

also, i know the formation's not realistic really, but i wanted to get two strikers in.

post up your own, and argue away....

    No McShane?

Gerrard above Walcott tbh in your team.

The likes of Riera, Mido and Walcott have barely played though.

judging a team like this shouldn't it be done like the PFA awards where it's across the course of a whole season?

    if you want.

i really didn't think of the logistics to be honest.

i just felt like putting up a sh*t team.

Fabianski has to go in for his games to gaffs ratio.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 21,235 ✭✭✭✭flahavaj

    lol

    Why?

Walcott's been injured for long spells and is a developing 21 year old.

Gerrard is Liverpool's club captain and talisman and hasn't tried a leg in several games this season.

I wouldn't have eitehr in my team tbh, but in a straight choice between two, if you want the guy who's been more disappointing I'd pick Gerrard easily.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,920 ✭✭✭AnCapaillMor

I'm an arsenal fan, gerrard may be most dissapointing but nowhere near as sh1te as walcotts been. Gerrard has a bad game every now and then, Walcott has a good game every now and then.

in reality, the team, I'm well aware, should be a hybrid of Burnley's defence, Hull's attack and maybe a hybrid of the two midfields, with a sprinkling of Porstmouth and West Ham.

    along with an Arsenal goalkeeper.

    but that'd be boring.

    ;)

Gerrard has had a terrible season by his standards, but it’s been nowhere near as bad as has been made out in the last few months. He’s been made a scapegoat for Liverpool’s entire season.
Yes, his effort levels have been poor, and so has his attitude. But not in a million years has he been worse than Walcott. And no way is he in the worst XI of the season.

To be fair, if you have Spector in, he's been playing pretty much all this year as a left back where, granted, he's been $h!te. He's just not quite so $h!te as a right back.

    True indeed.

Should be a fun thread anyway.:pac:

Yer man Jason Scotland deserves a mention as well.

    gotta be Brian Laws.

    Brian Laws.

    it's not even close.

Dowie is probably next in line, but Laws is so out of his depth it's frightening.

Rafa of course. Lucas as his assistant, just because he has to be in there. And Aquilani as the firness coach.:pac:

    Brian Laws

Even his appointment was mind boggling

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,246 ✭✭✭Esse85

Carrick would make that team as would Heskey.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,148 ✭✭✭✭Raskolnikov

    Berbatov
    Carrick
    Deco
    Fabianski
    Eduardo
    Gerrard
    Kuyt
    Riera
    Aquilani

Players with big reputations who have had a terrible season.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 6,798 ✭✭✭karma_

Brian Laws, hard to top his 80% defeat percentage. Truly awful.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 88,972 ✭✭✭✭mike65

[E]blanks-Blake hasn't really played enough minutes to count. What about Johan Elmander 24 league starts, 9 subs appearences and just 3 goals.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,570 ✭✭✭✭Frisbee

Ricardo fuller is a good shout too.

    20 Starts
    11 Sub Appearances

    3 Goals

    Or Dave Kitson

    10 starts
    7 Sub Appearances

    1 Goal

McShane gets the tantrum of the season for me (see link below) Wears his heart on his sleeve but seems to get caugh out time and time again .
Saw him give a MOTM display at Lansdowne road against the Czech republic and hoping to see more of that someday.

I'd have to consider Gerrard to.

If we are going on relative terms, looking at what they should be contributing to what they actually have all season though.

Although it hurts me to say it, the whole of the Liverpool team and manager. Overpaid, under-achieving wasters. I don't recall one good performance this season, no performances where they completely outplayed a top team. Totally lacking creativity. Brutal!

Although I agree somewhat with the sentiment, I think we outplayed Utd at home and Lyon away. Spurs at home (assuming they will be top 4 gives more of a case as a top club).

    Foster

    McShane
    Carlisle
    Ben Haim
    Spector

    Delap
    Sidwell
    Jenas
    Richardson

    Fagan
    Elmander

Delap has been fairly successful if somewhat controversial with stoke I think.

Definitely not in the worst team but Arshavin and Gerrard have seriously under-performed compared to last season.

Jason Scotland deserves a mention. Horrendous season.

I was tempted to mention Aquilani but to be fair to him, he hasn't played a whole lot so I can't really judge him that well.

Not that he had a bad season last year but the 4 goals against the pool made it look a hell of alot better than it was.

Coming from an Everton fan I'd say Yakubu should get a mention up front.

I know he came back from injury, hasn't played much either, but he's been terrible when he has played.

Also, Brian Laws 100% for worst manager of the year, and the Burnley board for worst board of the year with that decision to hire him (although Portsmouth and their distastrous financial situation also deserve a mention).

    He's just that bad.

Gotta throw in Chucho for Birmingham. I thought he was really gonna light things up when he started in the league.

Four years ago, Jason Scotland was opn the fringes of the Dunfermaline team (or some other north of the border side that isn't from Glasgow) and now he is in the premiership.

I habve tried telling Trinitabagoians that he isn't that good, but after Jones they think he is a god.

If being bad was a good thing we'd all be dreaming of a team of spectors :D
I don't think Mido should be there though but the only reason for that is cos we've only seen him playing 3 or 4 times.

    +1 to Elmander. Atrocious!
    Park Ji Sung
    Richards
    Pavlyuchenko
    Spector
