Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    RTE article here: http://www.rte.ie/sport/soccer/2010/0426/ireland.html

Biggest eyebrow raiser for me is Paul Green of Derby County

Aside from that, I'm happy to see both Meyler and Fahey called into the squad. Both have looked more than comfortable in their midfield roles.

    Keiren Westwood,
    Joe Murphy
    Brian Murphy
    Stephen Kelly
    Eddie Nolan,
    Paul McShane,
    Shane Duffy,
    Kevin Foley,
    Stephen Ward,
    Marc Wilson,
    Darren O'Dea,
    Keith Treacy,
    Darron Gibson,
    Andy Keogh,
    James McCarthy,
    Liam Lawrence,
    David Meyler,
    Keith Fahey,
    Paul Green,
    Caleb Folan,
    Leon Best,
    Shane Long,
    Anthony Stokes

finally, Fahey gets the call he deserves.

    McShane is still there?!

    Seamus Coleman?

All I know is he went out on loan, don't know with who though.

    *google search says to Blackpool*

I know, it's getting ridiculous at this point. The counter-argument is who else have we got to put in... but with Duffy, Wilson and O'Dea in there who can play centre half surely Seamus Coleman should be given a slot in the squad.

Coleman seems to be the glaring omission alright.

    Hopefully Stokes impresses

Actually with Blackpool in the playoff positions I assume Coleman is to stay with them as they must clash with the training camp

He's retired hasn't he? as opposed to been omitted from the squad. WOuld love to see him back in the frame though, his form this season would be a great asset to us. a defence of

    1.Given
    2.Carr
    3.O'Shea
4.St Ledger(bit ropey perhaps but with the lads around him he could develop well)
    5.Dunne

I couldn't imagine that leaking too many goals

Paul Green is a handy player, no world beater but he is a serious grafter.

6 of the squad started out in the LoI and only 4 are non-Irish born.

Fair play to the FAI, their grassroots model is clearly starting to bear fruit.

green, best, folan, lawrence, westwood, mccarthy.

7 if you include Duffy who is from the north.

Fair play to you for the assessment! Did you have to research that?

    Is Andy Reid still injured?

Don't think Stokes counts really as a product of the LOI, he was on the books at Arsenal since 15/16!

how McShane still gets in and Coleman doesnt... is beyond me.

I think he went to England from a LOI club (as opposed to the DDSL or something) though, IIRC. Maybe somebody can confirm.

People need to cop on with the unjustified smart arse comments too.

This is the actual reason i'd say. Blackpool are on course for a playoff position as it stands, and the playoff final is scheduled for 22nd May. The Training camp begins on the 16th May. Makes sense Blackpool wouldn't want a key team member missing for such an important (and lucrative) part of the season.

    Cherry orchard > Shels> england

Doubt may of the full team will be available for the games at the end of may and the team will be made up of this bunch.

Stokes joined from Shels youth team iirc. So that would have been the DDSL, think he was only 15.

    This.

He never played in the LOI.

I watch a lot of Sunderland and tin hat on Meyler has only played about a dozen games, but he seems less out of place at Premier League level than Andrews (or jazz hands as Blackburn supporters call him).

Bruce thinks a lot of David Meyler, just signed a new 5 year contract recently.

As he's good enough for our national squad it's quite horrifying....class soundtrack mind. :D

    that directed at my comment!!?

i was merely pointing out the fact that Arsenal had him from 15 years old as opposed to the other players noted for being brought through the LOI who actually were involved with the senior set-up of their LOI clubs and played league games. Stokes was on Shelbournes youth team for a season or 2 before Arsenal took him through their development systm

Coleman is trying to help Blackpool get up. Looks like they'll make the playoffs. He had his loan exteneded to cover that period. He's been playing out of skin to say the least.

fair enough, i thought it was just because he was retired

could be worth checking if he would come out of retirement

He did since retire fully and then return, whether or not that includes return for international selection I don't know!

As are Gibson and Wilson, but it's insulting to consider them 'non-Irish born'.

Yeah from all reports, he is playing very well. A couple of goals and a good few assists.. Fantastic prospect for both Everton and Ireland over the coming years.

Good to see Shane Duffy get the call up for the camp as well. Looks like a good player from the few times I've seen him for Everton this season.

True, Everton is a great club for those 2 to develop at. Moyes is an intelligent manager, Everton are an ambitious club with limited financial resources so they depend on their youth so hopefully Coleman and Duffy can fullfil their potential

Hopefully I'll get to the Algeria game, when and where are tickets on sale?
