Anyone know the breakdown of students in DIT including apprentices?
Or where could I find this info?

    Cheers

Hmmm, it depends what you need the data for, and how you count the students!! But here are the stats that we generally work off:

    Full-time students (incl full-time post-grads - excluding apprentices)

    Applied Arts 1850
    Built Environment 1250
    Business 2500
    Engineering 2100
    Science 1450
    Tourism and Food 1350

    Total f/t 10,500

Apprentices - in 2008/9 we would have had around 6,000 apprentices over the year. Mainly in Engineering, Built Environment and Tourism and Food. They come in in three phases, so around 2,000 per phase. The numbers are pretty much the same for this academic year, but are expected to drop a bit next year.

Part-time - again it varies by the time of year you take the "snapshot", as some courses only start in January, but generally there's about 5,000 part-time students including post-grad courses.

The part-time figures would be expected to rise significantly, if as is now expected, the Hunt Report recommends treating part-time students the same as full-time students from a Fee Payment point of view.

In summary, the DIT has 22,500 students (that's a bigger population than Sligo).

    Hope that's helpful
