Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

What about the Canon S90? It's a cut-down version of the G11 and you'll get it delivered online for around €353.:)

Slightly cheaper on eBay, about 425ish. Cheaper again if you buy direct from Asia, but you are likely to end up paying VAT/duty which would bring the price back to European levels. You might save a few bob by getting a refurbished G11 or a used G10.

Could I ask what the main difference between the s90 and the g11 is ?

i was looking into replacing my stolen G10, however at the moment the G10 on some sites (Amazon for one) is dearer than the G11 so don't know what to do.

Had looked at the S 90 but it looks like something that'd slip out of my hand somewhat like a bar of soap :)

if canon brought out a G something or other using four thirds system i'd jump at that!!

Then buy the G11 surely! I noticed this too when looking for a G10 to take underwater, had the housing already. There seems to be much more G11s around (especially on eBay) so the price is driven down by supply/demand. You'll get a good price on a G11 on eBay.

This is where I bought mine from. I didn't get charged any import duty, and never have when buying Kea.

S90 is smaller, lighter, shorter but faster lens, different controls, same sensor. Read a review of both..

I made a switch from the s90 to the g11 purely because the s90 felt small and it was annoying to use the front wheel for ISO. I also love the swivel screen on the g11. Very good for macro and lower perspectives

by all accounts the g10 is meant to be quite a bit better than g11.

Wasn't it that the G9 was meant to be better than the G10 ? And canon listened to a lot of the complaints and made the G11 more similar to the G9 ? ie smaller res sensor for a start.

I thought it was the G11 which was better - G11 has 1-2 stops better low-noise performance, G10 has more megapixels.

well i did think about the S90 and in fact was telling people to get it cos Ken Rockwell recommends it:) I like what he has to say bout cameras in general

    http://www.kenrockwell.com/tech/recommended-cameras.htm

There's alot to be said for pocketability of a camera:) i was thinking of a SLR but i know i wont use it.

going by dpreview i can't see much difference between the G10 and G11 apart from less pixels in the G11 which is better imo:) i was nearly sure there was a difference in the widest angle and the speed of the lens but must have been the G9 i was looking at!

oh and thanks gloobag - thats great although still not as cheap as i thought it would be;) you sure there isn't duty charged already?

ha ha just saw this -

"For customers in Ireland: due to customs changes starting from October 2008 onward, all shipments to Ireland should use TNT if you want to avoid the customs inspection and duty process."
