Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Do we have an Irish 'Mitfahrgelegenheit'?

For those who don't know, Mitfahrgelegenheit is one of those German words that has no direct equivalent in English, but it basically means travelling companionship opportunity: In other words, say I want to go from Nuremberg to Munich on 13 May but want to do it as cheaply as possible, I input my travel desire and a database finds me a number of people who are making the journey by car on that day, and who are willing to share the journey with me for a fairly modest price, mostly to cover petrol costs. I think it's a great idea; but are there any similar sites in Ireland? http://www.mitfahrgelegenheit.de/

Liftshare looks to be something along the lines of what you're suggesting - there seem to be some locations and trips listed for irish towns, but you have to register to get the details (not a member myself).

In Ontario the law had to be changed to allow people to organise this sort of thing:

I've used mitfargelegenheit a few times myself and saved quite a bit when travelling from and back to Berlin. The autobahns also make it fairly speedy :)

I had a quick look in to whether there's a successful Irish car pool site. There are a couple of sites out there but there seems to be very little usage on them. Apparently Irish people don't have the interest in sharing car space with strangers.
