Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hi

Am looking at getting the Desire, but am not too familiar with Meteor Network

I was informed that Meteor use VF network.

Does anyone know if this is correct ?

What are Meteor like network wise.

I travel a bit so would use in the US and Europe

I like their packages, great prices and add ons.

    Any advice welcome

If you travel a bit I'd go with VF.

Meteor have their own seperate network. The only time you will roam on Vodafone's network is in remote areas.

Personally I would choose Meteor because their plans are simply far better value and you have the option to pick a 12 month contract rather than being forced in to an 18 month contract. Meteor's HSDPA coverage is pretty sparse outside of cities and large towns but their 3G coverage isn't too bad. The rest of the country has EDGE which works reasonably well (I get a HSDPA signal most of the time though :D). Vodafone have great 3G coverage but they don't have EDGE in places where 3G coverage is poor, all they have is GPRS which is too slow for web browsing let alone anything else.

02 are also bringing it out 14th may according to their forum.
Available on the advance 150 and up plans.

€40 a month, 100 texts, 150 minutes, not any better than vodafone

Hi Dacelonid, is that a definite that 3 will be selling the HTC Desire from May 17th? I've asked them recently in one of their shops plus their customer service and they knew nothing about it. Would be great if that was the case.

Thats what they tell me when I rang customer service looing for an upgrade. Last week it was 3rd May, this week it is 17th May. I guess they will have it, just a matter of when. The guy I was speaking to in customer service is going to ring me when they have confirmation of pricing (well he said he would anyway, whether he does or not is another thing), but he was able to give some provisional pricing so it can't be that far away. Am going to ring up again next week if I haven't heard anything from them and see what the story is.

Cheers Dacelonid. Let us know if you do hear anything anyway. I'd like to stick with 3 myself as the contract is good value plus I do like the '3 like home' roaming in the UK and other '3' countries.

    What a joke.

I was looking at the Meteor 12 month Surf plan for the desire.

Then they release it and the equivalent plan (Smart 50) is an 18 month contract.

Yet the cheaper Smart plan (Smart 35) is only a 12 month contract.

    That makes no sense?!?!?

Do Meteor stores have any flexibility in terms of this? I would move to Meteor if they offered the Desire on Smart 50 for 12 months.

    It's available but it's Smart €55.

Any of their contracts are available in 12 or 18 month flavours so to speak. Just add €5 p/m and it's a 12 month contract.

I just called the Meteor stores on both Grafton Street and Henry street and they both say that isn't possible.

Try calling one of the shopping centre branches. I bought mine in Blanchardstown.

If upgrading, do you need to change to an 18 month contract or does it remain a 12 month?

Is the desire locked on Meteor? I know the Hero came unlocked, which made it handy when abroad (over in the UK quite a bit).

I'm due an upgrade with 3 so rang them and inquired about the desire. Customer service guy (Irish) told me it's due 17th May at latest and would be around the same prices as meteor/voda etc. He also said as far as he knew it wasn't going to be flashed with 3 firmware.
Are 3 customer upgrades dept based in Ireland?

    That's a tidy table :)

Just to note, I'm due an upgrade on Meteor. I just rang them up and it was going to cost me €199.99 to upgrade (€209.99 in the stores).
So it pays to move provider.
I know it's an age-old conundrum, and one I never understood. Would have thought they'd prefer to keep their customers?!

I was told that too. The price you pay in store is €179.99 for an upgrade though.

Anyone know what the Meteor coverage is like down in the South West of the country & is it the Meteor network that Eircom use ?

Was in meteor store today, you are not on 18 month contract if you are upgrading.
