    Hi guys
Sindy is a Retriever crossed with a Spaniel, so a medium sized lady who'll turn one next week. Her eyes have always weeped slightly, the vet says some of her eye lashes are irritating her. Three weeks ago her right eye became very sore looking, we gave it time to heal itself which it didn't do, so off to the vet.
The vet has diagnosed an alergy of some type and has put her on arnica eye drops and 5mg Prednisolone 1 twice a day. It was 1.5 but she was so zonked I rang them and we agreed to reduce it. We've to reduce the dosage over the next week and hopefully her eye will be healed.
What I really need to know is does anyone have any natural or less invasive treatments, she has no energy so I really don't want to be putting her on these tablets again.
Her diet is 1/2 tin of pedigree chum mixed with Hills puppy nuts twice a day. Meat based treats when out for her walk as we use them for training, a dentastik when we have dinner, and a minimum of titbits from what we eat. This is just in case anyone thinks her diet might be a factor.
She doesn't run off lead in fields with long grass, our back garden and a play field where she can run with some neighbours dogs, always under my control (hence the treats).

I'm afraid I have no advice as regards natural treatments but I would be interested to hear other people's opinions on this too. We have a cavalier King Charles at home and he has had problems in the past with weeping eyes. Thankfully we know what caused it. My Mam had lillies in the sitting room and he must have brushed passed them. No more lillies in the house or if they are giving as a gift we keep them well out of his way.

His right eye does still be at him from time to time though so I'd be curious to know if and when it does flare up what we could do for him other than the eye drops

Sorry, but if her eye lashes are irritating her it sounds like she has a condition called ENTROPION which is where the eye lashes turn in and scratch/irritate the eye.
Its not serious but it usually needs a very small op to basically stitch back the eye lid a bit to stop this from happening.

If she has always had weepy eyes then i would get a second opinion from anotehr vet as she might need this simple op to fix her eyes as it probably wont get any better without it.

Andreac the vet did say it could be this, but as the discharge is normally black and she's in no discomfort she didn't think it was worth operating unless it becomes as issue, which it looks like it could become now :-(
Trowelled hopefully we'll come up with something

Tbh if its happening all the time then i really would consider getting the 2nd opinion and see if its worth doing as it cant be that comfortable for her being like that all the time.

Whereabouts are you based as theres a vet in dublin that specialises in this sort of stuff and i can find out exactly where they are if you like.

The vet did mention a specialist to my Mam. It's probably the one you're talking about Andreac. I've a feeling he's in Blackrock but I'm not 100 % sure on that one. If I find out from my Mam I can pm you on the details barbiegirl. If it is a different one then at least you have options :)

Our youngest dog suffers from chronic conjunctivitis and I clean her eyes twice a day with cold tea when they weep or get sticky.

Eye conditions are not often caused by allergies. If an ulcer develops, prednisolone is the wrong thing to use. Any discharge that is not clear in colour is more than an allergy. I would definitely suggest a second opinion but an eye specialist is not necessary at this stage as it still seems to be straight forward. Entropion is very easy to diagnose and can be picked up very easy on a routine physical examination (with or with out clinical signs). PM me if you have queries, this is an area I have extensive knowledge in without giving you my qualification!
