ECDL Course in Limerick during the Summer?

I'm a first year Business Student and it's looking unlikely that I will have a full time job during the summer.

As an alternative, I'm hoping to do the ECDL during the summer so my time off will be put to some use. Good for future career opportunities I've heard.

I have googled it but the information is pretty vague.

Does anyone know if ECDL courses are run doing the Summer in Limerick City?

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Unless you're entirely inept in IT I wouldn't bother. You'll be bored senseless, and any decent HR manager will know how much of a horseshit course ECDL is.

You can do 5 days for 600 or 12 evenings for 400

    Buy a book,study,do the test.

That ECDL is such a waste IMO

Thank you for all the replies.

Even if it's useless/boring, it's still something I can put on my CV and I can least say that I didn't spend the entire summer sat on my ass doing sweet FA.

I am hoping to get into accountancy post college so what level of course should I look at? I did work experience in an accounting firm and was told an EDCL accreditation would be a good thing to have when looking for work in that area. At the moment, my knowledge of computers is pretty sound including operating Microsoft Excel.

Apologies to the mods, I realise this forum probably isn't the appropriate place to ask the above.

Look at maybe a payroll or Sage course for accounting. Maybe microsoft office specialist for excel?

I would recommend doing the Microsoft Certified Applications Specialist exams (used to be called Microsoft Office Specialist). We offer them to students in our school and I think they would be a better bet than ECDL.

Try the FAS multimedia centre in Raheen much cheaper than the colleges and work at your own pace

Doing an ECDL is ****e, I'd recommend going to the likes of Limerick Senior/LIT and doing a specific computer course such as webdevelopment, computer repairs etc.

Self Study it - Save yourself a pile of money and time - Nothing worse than the pain of sitting in a Class studying something at the pace of the slowest Dope in the Midwest........

    - Also find the equivalent Forum to this where People a couple of years into your chosen field of work discuss further training/Certs and research them in detail.

why not go for a accountant technician course bit more expensive but you can do it during the evenings plus would be a lot lot lot better then ecdl that is not worth the paper it is written on imho
