Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Where in Spanish Arch is it being beamed and is it just the image in your pic or is there more to it than that?
Is it worth going to to take some pics of a waste of time?
    Cheers,
    Pa.

There's the light being beamed into the sky, and then lights on two buildings :)

[*]The lights move up and down the building.

That's a pretty poor decision for a photograph competition.

Hey guys organising this! If you want some really decent photos out of this keep the lights still, because in low light situations long exposures on a tripod are very useful, and they won't work if stuff is moving.

I'll take a shot at this tomorrow night, great idea for a competition.

The guy in charge of the lights, in Limerick, wasn't even aware of a photo competition.

Was down in the Spanish Arch tonight, very tricky to get a shot.. I thought it was meant to be on until 12:30am but the lads switched it off at 12am?

Will post up a few shots 2moro.

Being completely honest, I was kinda expecting something a bit....more interesting...

Wandered down to the spanish arch earlier, was kinda stunned by how crap it really was. I have to say, from the initial brief given I was expecting the locations to be properly lit, and actually have something that you could take an interesting picture of...

A van, generator and 3 rather pointless looking beams/logos not even on the arch... needless to say I was fairly disappointed.

I suppose I'll have some sort of attempt tomorrow but it's about as inspirational as a can of lynx.

    You stalking me HBR???

Cork was actually very limited with what you could do. The second logo (on the left here) was obscured from most positions across the river due to a big chunk of building sticking out in front of it and it also had a spotlight right next to it.
I have some more from further upriver and from close in front of the building that I'll go through tomorrow. Nothing too spectacular though.

On the subject of the flip cameras I'd also agree with the poster that said a random draw would be the fairest option - either that or the three 'runners-up'.

Great results guys so far - loving the shots. Its the middle of the night if not early morning, but it was worth it as the weather was nice.

I must admit it was funny to see how people approach the subject from different angles :) .

Probably a bit different in every city. You've got to love Boland Mills...thank you for giving me the reason to get up :) .

yeah it was all a bit weird... did a couple of long exposure but they were moving the logo so i got a bunch of blue blurs. Very weird conditions to photograph in. I wonder what upc were trying to achieve with this

I think NTL are trying to disassociate themselves from their "perceived" bad reputation by rebranding themselves as UPC so people will forget about all the bad stuff they have heard over the years about dealing with NTL :pac:
They are also doing a big publicity piece on this mornings Metro newspapers!
When I first read about this competition I thought it might have been worth doing but once I heard it was that crowd I am glad I gave it a miss :D

I can't wait to head down tomorrow to try it! I wonder when it'll be up in baggot street?!

Heya, approximate timings for Dublin are
    • Baggot Street (corner of Baggot St and Herbert St): 9.30pm – 10pm
    • Busaras(wall facing IFSC): 10.20pm – 10.50pm
    • Dame St (building beside City Hall): 11.10 – 11.40pm
    • Usher’s Quay (back of Dublin City Council offices) 12am –12.30am

Please don't hold me to these rigidly - it is approximate. :)

Some great photos up here so far folks, well done!

dunno, they all look a bit flat to me - not necessarily the photos, but the lights themselves

Probably not what UPC/NTL/Chorus/Cablelink had in mind when they came up with the bright idea of a photo comp. Still, might venture out this evening myself...
