Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Definitely one of my favourite radio programmes was "Music For Middlebrows", presented by Des Keogh...quality music, with a bit of humour thrown in. Went to a couple of his stage presentations of the show in the National Concert Hall etc, really entertaining.

Also, Radio One used to have a great programme presented by Conor Maguire, featuring big-band music (Glen Millar etc).
In both cases, I used to record them on cassette tape, and I still have a number of the programmes on tape (now sadly relegated to the attic).

As regards current programmes, really enjoy "On The Ball" on Newstalk, some great interviews on various sports subjects and I love the Johnny Giles slot as he gives us his pearls of wisdom...on the down-side, don't have much time for another contributor,(can't think of his first name) second name Collins (ex-manager of Carlisle, Steve is his boxing
    brother!).

Has to be the Chris Moyles Golden hour, BBC Radio 1 from 9am-10am on Fridays. Between the fantastic tunes, his style, and the old Radio 1 jingles mixed in, it just makes it a unmissable listen every week.

I think this post shows just what sort of stuff people listen to on radio. They have it on listening to music but for me the personality of the presenter has a lot to do with whether I listen to a show or not.

Some of the best public service broadcasting I've heard in recent times is Sublin City FM's Livedrive programme on January 6th when it snowed and Dublin Bus pulled all the buses. John Neay and Paul Murnock put on an epic piece of broadcasting from 4pm to 9pm, well past their scheduled finishing time of 7 pm.

Maybe we should have a thread on epic broadcasts.

I don't think its on 'listening the music', its the whole package , personality, style, and the music together that people judge a "best hour of radio" on. Moyles plays plenty of the muck you get on any mainstream stations over here and I'm sure its not just myself that fast forwards through a lot of this on the i-player. But the golden hour is just very different, nothing playlisted and Moyles let loose at his best for an hour every week. This video 50sec in is a case in point.:D

2FM 5 am - 6 am Sat. & Sun. mornings. It's like someone raided my record collection. I just wish I was awake for it more often.

The Chris Moyles show is available on a "Listen Again" service on the BBC Website

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio1/chrismoyles/

You can skip to the last hour on the Friday show to listen.

    It's a great show.
