Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

What rev's your PETROL car doing at 120 kmph?

    This statement (from here) got me thinking;
My car averages 4k on the m50 in 5th gear! It's a piece of **** so I don't put the foot down too often for fear of embarrassing myself.

So who has the lowest, and highest revving car at 120kmph? Im ruling out the cars on the black stuff as they traditionally run at lower rev's.

    I'll start;

    - Opel Corsa 1.6 (6 speed) 3050 rpm (approx :D)

    All 5 Speeds.

    04 Micra 1.0 5500RPM

    04 Megane 1.4 5000RPM

    08 S40 Biofuel 1.8 4500RPM

Last Diesel Car. I didn't even look.

The megane was hitting 5800RPM or so when it was doing 180kph.

    Honda Civic, 1.3, 120kph in 5th gear @ 4500

    Wait....no....3500

  • Registered Users Posts: 656 ✭✭✭hurleronditch

    Alfa 147 1.6
    5th gear, just under 3800

Quite oddly (and handily) In 5th gear the revs and MPH match each other almost exactly on a 50:1 ratio, so i know 60 is exactly 3000, 80 4000 etc

Aye..well it's a bit all over the place..

1st gear is very short, 2nd short, 3rd gets quite long (110mph) and 4th brings it to top speed, 5th cruises along but will only reach about 130mph

I think it's actually depends from type of engine and engine + gearbox combination.

    Alfa Romeo 2.0 6-speed 3500rpm
    Lancia Kappa 2.0 5-speed 4000rpm
    Mercedes-Benz S320 Automatic 2000rpm

    Chauffe, Marcel, chauffe!

    All my V8s - a bit over 2k r/m (E34 530 3.0l 5sp auto, E38 735 3.5l 5sp auto, Porsche 928 S2 4.7l 4sp auto). Straight 4 1.8l 5 sp manual Rover 75 about 3.2k r/m. Straight 6 2.0l E39 5sp manual about 3.2k r/m. All petrol. All in top gear obviously.

You sure about your Clio, SV? Seems extraordinarily low for a small 4 pot!

Fiat Punto 1.2, 120km/h in 5th gear... well it doesn't actually have a tachometer but judging from the unholy roar coming from the engine, I reckon it's a few revs short of exploding.

    3500 rpm I think, 318ci (1.9).

    Gearbox 6-speed manual
    1st gear 4.254 : 1
    2nd gear 2.534 : 1
    3rd gear 1.682 : 1
    4th gear 1.235 : 1
    5th gear 1.000 : 1
    6th gear 0.831 : 1
    Final Drive 2.93

    BMW 850CSi 5.6l

Have it all to hand as I was working out what changing to an E36 M3 Evo rear diff (Final Drive 3.23) would do for me.

    Honda Integra Type R (98) 4650 @ 120km/hr

VTEC engages at 4900RPM in my yoke so its great for keeping me to the speed limit, as after that the fuel guage moves faster than the rev guage
