so after reading the script people are now stating that there is 4 villans. they are
hugo strange the main villan, black mask who takes over the mob in gotham city. taila al ghul looking for revange and killer croc as the meathead henceman.
    your thoughts ?

It's faked apparently. And hopefully, as said above that's way too much to jam in to one film.

I think Nolan is less inclined to take studio interference. I mean he is so relaxed towards the franchise, at times he had everyone wondering if he even wanted to make a 3rd one, WB included I'm sure. So in no way were they going to try and piss him off by dictating to him what villains he should use.

I remember reading an article, might be linked earlier in this thread, he was basically saying that because Inception gave the studio huge profits, he'll have more, if not complete, creative control for the 3rd batman.

Aye, that's it like. Not only did he revive a dead franchise for them, his last two films have made them an insane amount of money. For once a studio has learned how not kill a good thing.

The Dark Knight Rises is to shortly begin screen testing for two lead actress roles, it has been reported.

Sources claim that Anne Hathaway, Keira Knightley and Jessica Biel are due to audition for a part in the upcoming Batman picture within the next two weeks.

Relative newcomers Kate Mara and Charlotte Riley are also vying for a role in the film, according to The Hollywood Reporter's Heat Vision blog.

Gemma Arterton was apparently scheduled to try out for the film, but is now unlikely to be able to commit to shooting after securing the lead in Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters.

One of the characters thought to be up for grabs is Talia al Ghul, daughter of Ra's - who was played by Liam Neeson in 2005's Batman Begins. Talia recurs in the comics as a love interest for Bruce Wayne, and ultimately gives birth to Wayne's son.

Hathaway and Knightley were first linked to the Christopher Nolan movie in November. Hathaway cryptically declined to comment on the speculation last month.

Mara, whose sister Rooney is currently shooting the David Fincher adaptation of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, recently appeared in 127 Hours. Riley is dating confirmed Dark Knight Rises actor Tom Hardy, and has mostly featured in television roles.

Shooting on the superhero film is due to begin in May, with a view to a July 2012 release.

Things just keep getting stranger and stranger! From that list, uh, I'd take Hathaway and Mara. But still, it's a pretty weak looking list, and Biel immediately gets my BS detector going. The coincidence of Hardy's beau being reportedly up for a role is fishy too.

Marion Cotillard and Natalie Portman were suppose to have been offered roles but because of pregnancies had to turn them down

Keira Knightley would do a good job as Catwoman imo

Apparently it may not be Hugo Strange that Hardy is playing. He has supposedly shaved his head because he's starring in a film called "The Wettest County in the World" first.

Quite a funny rumoured script leak too which includes a merging of Edward Nashton (The Riddler) and Hugo Strange.

    http://www.nolanfans.com/tag/talia-al-ghul/
As the more or less confirmed May start start date for The Dark Knight Rises grows closer each day, fanboys (and girls!) everywhere grow antsy in anticipation of official news. In the void left by lack of official news grow rumors. Many of them. The latest and most interesting rumors come to us from the folks over at Collider. Today they reported a couple rumors given to them by confidential yet reliable or trustworthy sources.
The first rumor, as you can guess from my rather plain but descriptive title, is that Eva Green (Casino Royal) and Naomi Watts (King Kong) have been cast in The Dark Knight Rises. A source told them Eva Green is set to play the role of Talia al Ghul, daughter of Ra’s al Ghul (Liam Neeson’s character in Batman Begins) and possible baddie. Naomi Watts will play Vicki Vale, photojournalist and possible love interest to Bruce Wayne – a character who also appeared in Tim Burton’s 1989 Batman. Collider been unable to confirm this rumor, and another website listed several other actresses who are supposedly still in talks for a role in the film and even go as far as to rule out Green and Watts. They do however believe that Talia al Ghul is a definite character appearing in the film.
A different source let slip some details on the new Batmobile and Batcave. The previous two installments in the franchise set up the need for replacements for them both. The source tells Collider that the Tumbler is being redesigned to be more sleek, but still powerful. The “new” Batcave will be essentially be the same as the one in Batman Begins, but they’re adding a bay for the Tumbler, and areas for computer systems and Batsuits, presumably similar to the ones in The Dark Knight.
Lastly, Collider is reporting and essentially confirming the May to November production dates that Michael Caine mentioned a couple months back. Their first source cites May 6th as the start of production, and November 28th as the end. Sounds pretty dope to me. What do you think about all of this? I think some of it seems pretty reliable or believable at least. Much more so than some of the other rumors flying around.

Bah, rumours, shrumours. But I really like the sound of that one. Eva Green would make a great Talia imo. And I love Watts. However, I don't see the need for Vicki Vale. Token love interests aren't Nolan's strength.

It might be nice to see a better interpretation of the Vale character after the debacle that was Basinger.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 22,905 ✭✭✭✭Handsome Bob

Is Vale in the comics? For some reason I was always under the impression that she was created by Burton.

EDIT Anyway, no need for the character in this IMO, I liked the other rumours of Sarah Essen being in this and Watts would be very good for that role.

I always thought this as well. But, no, she was definitely in the comics, going back as far as the 40s. I think Bob Kane created her as well.

Yes I think one female is enough and Green as Talia would be a good fit

I thought that too. But after a bit of wiki work, Vicki has been in the comics since the 1948. I was sure she was like Harley Quinn, in the sense that she was eventually adopted by the comic books from a different media.

On the other hand though, the juxtaposition of two women - one light, one dark - is a common theme in (among other things) the Bond movies which Nolan frequently references. For the (male) protagonist the choice between the two women often represents a symbolic dilemma about what path to take. In this case, Talia could represent Batman, and Vicki could represent Bruce Wayne. Talia would be reminder of Batman's origin, as well as posing a substantial threat to him should she seek revenge for her the death of father. While Vicki would be a reminder of Rachel, and Bruce's last chance for a normal life.

With this being the third film, it is likely that Bruce will be wrangling with whether he wants to continue being the "Dark Knight" that Batman is, or become the the "White Knight" that his father was. With Harvey dead the only person who could reasonably fill the shoes of Gotham's White Knight is Bruce himself, but that would require him to put an end to the Batman. A Hugo Strange-type villain who knows Batman's deepest secrets could threaten all that.

Shamelessly nicked from another forum, Bale mentions having to screen tests for possible co-stars in TDKR:
Mark Wahlberg's introduction of Christian Bale and Bale's comments also got the audience's attention Tuesday night.

When he saw Bale in his first movie, he noticed his blue-collar storyline, which also seemed fitting for their work in The Fighter.
Wahlberg quipped he'd "blue-collar" Bale any day of the week though. "I've been in prison, dude. Come on!" he said before turning serious. "Unfortunately that part is true. I won't go back."

Bale said the latest Batman film is next for him, but he is still in the mode of his Fighter character Dickie since he hasn't played any other roles since. "I'm interested to see how Chris Nolan takes Dickie in a Batsuit," quipped Bale.

The snowstorm once again came up in his speech, as Bale mentioned that he, Wahlberg and the rest of their table would have to run off right after they get off stage to make it out of town - or risk being stuck. Bale mentioned he particularly needs to return to LA to work on screen tests for possible Batman co-stars."

Looks like it's pretty safe to say that more casting news is imminent.

Speaking of The Fighter Amy Adams is another actress who would be a good fit for TDKR

I just cant see why bother putting a love intrest in the movie since this is Nolans last movie with it and im not happy with eva green in this.Bring in Harlaquinn, this seems like the right path if there hiring women,a right nasty b!tch that was really into the joker.Guess they wont do this since joker is gone.

Would it be so wrong the batman dies in this movie and leaves bruce wayne to sort out the city. The fan boys would be sick to see it but I think it would finish off the movie great leaving the so called white Knight.

    New article: http://www.dailyblam.com/news/2011/01/13/deadshot-black-mask-revealed-as-the-villains-in-the-dark-knight-rises

Forced to remove the info apparently, names are still in the url though. It'd be a nice blend of gangster and hitman anyway if true. But since Bale is screen testing with actresses up for two roles, I can't see the film being so stacked.

Do Daily Blam have a history of trustworthy reporting? Because the plot synopsis they posted sounds like crap and not something WB would be bothered enough to get taken down even if it was true.
