I've just finished part 2 of the saga, I felt Part 1 dragged at times, but part 2 is a true tour de force!

I think part one of Knightfal, suffers a bit as unless one was collecting the monthlys at the time, then the storylines that came just before Knightfall are not read.

The storylines in the five or six months before knightfall introduced Jean-Paul Valley and gave him his back story and did the same for Bane, as well as explaining in more detail why Bane came after Batman in Knightfall, and how Bane was forced into a super soldier programme against his will, similar to Wolverine in the Weapon X programme.

Part two is a lot quicker, mainly because all the characters are in place, and of course has the big pay off at the end.
Did the train scene near the end seen familar to you?

Another thing that made the story so much better in terms of impact first time around was that it came hot on the heels of the Death Of Superman storyline so DC really went to town on it's two biggest characters at almost the same time. It really pushed DC at the time because if the Man Of Steel could be killed off, and the Bat could be broken, then us readers felt that any character was fair game to be beaten or killed.

I started part 3 there but is it just me or did they jump a big gap?
JP has killed and BW is well into his rehab
, there wasn't a clear sign of either at the end of part 2.

There were a few collected editions released of the saga over the years, so it is possibly that some may not have some of the non main title comics in them.

It has been some time since I dug out my collected editions of the storyline, so would have to reread them again to be sure of the running order in terms of what is or is not included in the collected edition I have, most of what I say about them on here is from memory.

I did dig out The Long Halloween this weekend, so maybe a trip to the attic to dig out the Knightfall books may be in order next.

Tom Hardy has revealed that he intends to put on weight to play Bane in The Dark Knight Returns.
Speaking on Channel 4 chatshow Alan Carr: Chatty Man, the BAFTA-winning star said that he aims to put on up to two stone to play Batman's adversary.
After Carr showed him a picture of Jeep Swenson as Bane in Batman and Robin, Hardy said: "That's a lot of weight to put on, and I've got to start shooting in May... I've got to get up to about 13 and a half or 14 stone.
"I'm 12 [stone] and a bit now, so I’ve got only three months to do that."
Carr also presented Hardy with his BAFTA Orange Wednesdays 'Rising Star' trophy after the actor missed the ceremony.
Hardy added that the fact the public voted for the award made it "all the more cool".

    http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/movies/news/a306822/dark-knight-rises-plot-details-leak.html

The plot of The Dark Knight Rises has been revealed, according to sources.
Badass Digest recently posted details of the apparent storyline for Christopher Nolan's highly-anticipated superhero movie, which were later backed up by fan site Batman-On-Film.
According to the report, the Warner Bros picture will focus on Batman's (Christian Bale) battle with the League of Shadows - a vigilante group headed by Talia al Ghul, with Bane (Tom Hardy) as her "muscle" and "possible love interest".
It is also claimed that rumoured cast member Joseph Gordon-Levitt will be portraying a villain connected with the shadowy organisation, while Anne Hathaway's Catwoman will ultimately fight against the League alongside Batman.
Regarding the rumours, Batman-On-Film subsequently posted on its Facebook page: "Some TDKR details have leaked. I know that they are true because I've known about it for a few weeks now."
The League of Shadows played a significant part in 2005's Batman Begins where they were led by Liam Neeson's Ra's al Ghul, the father of Talia.

The Dark Knight Rises opens in July 2012.

That doesn't read like a plot synopsis, more like logical guesswork based on the characters involved. As usual the guy over at BOF is claiming he knew about this months ago. If he knew why didn't he post about it? He is so full of it.

Funny how Batman being hunted by the cops for mutliple murders is left behind in all these "plot reveals"

Warner Bros. will reveal the plot in due time, everything else is fanyboy rumours.

    ^^^^ THIS!!!!

I reckon the first part of the movie will be about Gotham's rise in crime, ever since Batman has gone into hiding. Bruce Wayne will be funding the government/police to help them control the crime. While at the same time, a new costumed vigilante has been spotted taking down the bad guys - enter Catwoman ;)

Jett (The guy who runs BOF) has said a few times that the reason he hasn't ever revealed anything he knew was to keep the relationship he has with the production team sound.

Yeah, I know, but why does he go on about it so much? I've stopped reading his site because every time something new is released he posts just to say that he it knew about it already. He's not doing his credibility any favours.

And I have a hard time believing that someone in the production is leaking info to a blogger but not allowing him to post any of it. The guy just sounds like he's full of crap.

Jett maintains that he doesn't divulge information in fear of damaging his links with the Nolan camp. In other words, he's a bull****ter.

Back before Hardy and Hathaway were cast, Jett said "expect a huge announcement in the new year". What a nice broad, timeframe you gave yourself there Jett.

We've all spent alot of time on the thread talking about the actors and characters in the movie but other than Rachel and Dent there was another huge killing in the dark knight.

The tumbler is gone. There must be a new Batmobile.

Will we see Nolan inspired traditonal batmobile? As long as we stay away from the flying/boat batman please.

I did Love the one from Batman Forever though :)

Bit camp but looked so cool

So, according to Oldman, there's another villain, who is not the Joker, but is "from one of the old, old, from way back from the old comics".

Any thoughts as to who this could be?

Depends on what they are calling "the old, old", but if we are talking the really early days, and are not talking about the mobsters in the early comics, then the list of "super" villains is not very long.

Clayface. The original one that used make up and disguises rather than the super powered version that came about much later.

Dr Hugo Strange. He has already been hinted at for the new film.

Those two, along with the Joker and Catwoman were main super bad guys in the early comics.

The second wave of major bad guys contained the likes of Two Face, The Penguin, The Riddler and Deadshot, although the last guy may be from the 1950's or 1960's and I could be wrongly putting him in with the second wave.

The Calendar Man ( who interestingly is also in The Long Halloween storyline that influenced a lot of The Dark Knight) is another from the 1950's or 1960's that could be an outside shot despite his crap name. Basically he is very very intelligent but is obsessed with dates, and his crimes either tie in with a famous date at some level (as well as happening on that date) or they tie in with a day of the week that he themes the crime to.

A better villain, and one who is very similar in style to Calendar Man, would be the character of Holiday (the main villain in The Long Halloween), and this character would be easy to tie in with event in the Dark Knight.

i can safely say ive watched the TDK on average once a week since it was released on DVD and went to it 4/5 times in the cinema,it is cinematic genius

All batman fans recently would ave seen the rumours(for now thats all they are until nolan says otherwise) that the league of shadows will be the concept of TDKR and talia al ghul and bane as a love interest

what do people think of this?

IMO i was kinda down when this was announced i was looking forward to seeing the bat being hunted/hated and then coming through and saving gotham and i cant see how the league of shadows would show this, also i wasnt to pleased about catwoman but i have faith in nolan and thinks he can pull this off,Tom will be super as bane and i hope to see JGL aswel(looks like he will be alberto falcone)

i would hope nolan does give some sort of nod to the joker, and for al those now reading this sayin "hes not gonna be in it nolan already said this",nolan was asked a question about the joker in the TDKR and nolan said and i quote "no.....i dont feell comfortable talking about it" he was saying no to being asked the question and not no to the joker,i will admit there is a slim chance in the joker being in TDKR but do you not think heath ledgers joker deserves a respectable on screen farewell???

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,489 ✭✭✭iMax

I think they've probably got some B-Roll/Cut footage they can use (along with CGI/Stand-Ins) of Heath Ledger to weave him into the story in a very small way. Wether they do or not remains to be seen. I wouldn't like a re-cast, in fact I wish they'd re-shoot Wassername's scenes from the first one with wassername from the second one for a trilogy release.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 139 ✭✭Dick Burns

when heath ledger died straight away i thought James Franco is the man to replace him and when JGL was sorta annouced i thought it has to be him

to be honest when the scarecrow got out of the van in TDK i didnt think it was him until batman took off his mask and we seen it was cillian murphy(would be nice to see him return for a small cameo aswel in arkham or something)

i just think for such a historical performance that has changed things....forever (ha sorry) you cant just not have the joker in the TDKR and any film and batman fan would have to agree, the joker needs closure in the proper way not just gordon or batman going "oh yeh joker died when he was caught " i think that would be totally disrespectful,i think heath would want the joker in TDKR in some way, shape or form

Nolan has shot down the possibility of the Joker being in TDKR so many times now that it is just denial to continue to believe that he wil make an appearance. They can deal with the Joker without actually showing him. Even had Ledger lived, Joker wouldn't have been the main villain but at most probably would have a played a Hannibal Lector in SOTL type role. Nolan merged most of Goyer's plans for a third film into TDK.
