Hi, my name is Emma. I am a photography student. Over the christmas my canon 17-85mm lens gave me Error 99 problems (aperature crap) and does not work so I saved up and got a 18 - 55mm kit lens..its great but im looking around to get a 17-85mm Canon lens or also a Sigma 18-200 lens. Like I said I am a student and have not got much money (just like everybody else out there - damn recession) and I have been looking online like a mad woman and am finding all prices for brand new lenses very high (fair enough I suppose) but I was just wondering of there is anybody out there wanting to sell one second hand can yee let me know and what price (I have been saving). Thanks very much. Tis greatly appreciated :)

Error 99 is a catch all thing and often not fatal. Could be anything as small as cleaning the contacts on the back of the lens. Have you had it looked at?

It only seems to work on f/5.6 but sometimes only. Error 99 appears on the screen and stops me from taking a photograph...I have had my head wrecked from it and from researching what it actually means for months now. Canon wont release a formal statement saying what exactly Error 99 is. I only had it 4 months and took extra care with it.The aperature blades in my lens are completly stuck and I have no warranty as I bought it off a friend and dont know anywhere that might try fix it and I heard they are expensive to get fixed and would be better off just buying a new one :(

    Thank you tho :)

I'm pretty sure I got Error 99 a few times. I have the 18-55 kit lens.

Clichè as it may sound, turning it off and on again worked for me. My sensor is fairly dirty at the moment. Dunno if that's a contributing factor or not
