New Irish Drivers Licence: R-Plates Needed in Northern Ireland?

    Hi,

Just passed my driving test and was wondering if I can drive up North? Will I get hassle if I don't use R-Plates (which apply for the first year of a new drivers licence up there) or will a Republic of Ireland drivers licence be exempt? I'm nearly certain it'll be fine but I just want to make sure.

Sorry if this has been covered before somewhere else, I couldn't find a thread about it.

I presume you have received your pink license? If you have then you are fine. No need for R plates, since you are an Irish driver.

Hi Guys... Just looking for any information that I can gather. I am from the Republic but I am at University in the North and have just passed my test up here. Iv bought a car up here and have it registered to here. However I am looking to exchange my Northern Licence for a Southern one. I still am home on a regular basis and my permanent address is still in the South. I am just wondering that if I apply for a Southern licence will I have to re register the car in the Republic and hence forth pay VRT on my car to be honest imo is over priced down home

Sorry if this has been covered else where

Let me know what you think... thanks
