Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

What a ride by Dan Martin. That was unreal. He was crossing the line and not a word from Sean Kelly. what is it about this guy. Is he jealous or something?? He never mentions the Irish riders.Shame on him.

Eh? Sean Kelly is paid to provide race commentary, not to be a cheerleader for Irish riders. Both he and Harmon remarked during the stage on what a good ride he was having. Add that to the fact that Kelly is a fairly quietly spoken guy most of the time. Have you ever seen him jumping up and down in the commentary box about anything?

On a side note. Do people really believe Liquigas are a nice innocent team. Come on look at Pellozotti ?? Banned before the Giro. The whole team riding well?? and esp two riders??

Basso looked like the Basso of old and we all know thats a problem.

I've no idea whether Basso is still at it or not, but one thing's for certain, he isn't the Basso of old. That guy won the Giro by almost nine and a half minutes. Despite riding really well, both of them are still minutes off the lead.

5.5 watts/kg, they are saying here. If that's accurate, it's good but not out of this world.

He's usually beaten to it by Harmon, but I find they have plenty of time for Irish riders.

Yes, for a British channel, they certainly give plenty of time to Irish riders.

David Harmon certainly said it was an excellent ride by the Irishman or words to that effect.

thats the report from the last time they did this TT in the giro (2008). Will be interesting to compare average speed and finishing times (the former might be more relevant than the latter as its 0.05km shorter this year), considering 3 of the top 5 have been done for doping-related offences in the meantime.

LOL, look at the team names they have listed alongside the riders. Database problems at CN?

Not Contador though. He has the physique of a natural TTer, and doesn't need to resort to cheating.

Talking of which, why is Contador messing around in wind tunnels rather than racing the Giro?

    sastre riding a 34x28 today:eek:

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,916 ✭✭✭NickDrake

Rest day yesterday so it will be interesting to see who got a blood top up. This will go to a specialisit climber or whoever got the best top up.

One would have to fancy Sastre. Cant see Evans doing much and it is too short for Basso. Maybe Cunego?? It will be interesting to see how Dan Martin goes.

Maybe Vino will get a top up like he did when he blew everyone out of it the the TT in the Tour in 2008???

Think I saw an Irish flag waved at Dan within the last km. Even looked like it spurred him on - he was on the pedals just afterwards.
Although, in fairness - on that course you could do a whole 12km out of the saddle!

Why is Scarponi shoe covers on a stage like today? What advantage would he pick up from using them?

Great coverage of Dan Martin today and another graet ride. Hope his family had the recorder on.

It was a savage TT and that last kilometre was just a ball buster. Notice it was over a minute slower than Pelozotti's winning time in 2008. Possibly all clean but then Garzzelli is no spring chicken so.....

Shame on Eurosport for giving so much coverage to Dan Martin yesterday. It was a bloody disgrace.

the tour made such a meal of the ventoux stage and all that happened was everyone marked each other out

Most definitely, however the field in the Tour is always stronger. This years Giro has been particularily difficult.
The 2 stages Friday and Saturday have almost 11000 metres vertical climbing and that is after 3 weeks racing.

Wonder will Kelly pronounce the Mortirolo (savage climb) correctly this year? He definitely called it the Motirola last time they were there!

His reading of the stages each day has been excellent, really knows his stuff

This year definitely. I also think it's going to prove to be way more entertaining and open than Le Tour

Ivan Basso back to 2006 form. Why do i even bother watching this shít

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,653 ✭✭✭sy

It was a great stage to watch if you could just ignore the first group.
Find it hard to believe Basso, Nibali and Scarponi could drop Evans and the rest so easily. Basso has that suspicious stare again and Nibali was just too good. Scarponi looked like death.

Whether Basso was or wasn't on anything its certainly wasn't for descending.

certainly the commentator made that point in a very thinly veiled accusation.
I really thought the group of 5 were gonna make contact but then when the road went up for the last time Basso etc just flew away.

Nice handy stage today from Bormio (1,182) to Ponte Di Legno Tonale (1,883) across 178km an average of 4m per km ;)
