Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Can't access one site only

I've always been able to connect to a certain site but over the last 6 months I can't get on at all...We've 4 computers connected to the reuter in my house either by wifi or connected directly to the reuter itself...

The site in question is www.interpolnyc.com

I've tried all of the the below...

Tried differnt browsers, they just keep coming up "Firefox etc can't find the server at www.interpolnyc.com."

    Cleared history and cache logs

Used Spy bot , checked firewalls and made sure it was a trusted site...

I checked with the admin of the site to make sure there was no problens with my ip address...

When I run a ping test on my Netopia diognostics page it comes back "Cannot resolve hostname"

There is one way I can access the site and that's through a proxy service like atunnel but I dont like using my password on these sites and they are just a haven for pop ups and are riddled with issues...

I'm sure the solution is looking at me in the face but I'm stumped...If anybody can help i'd really appreciate it...

    Cheers.

try the following test to rule out your DNS...(assuming you use windows)

    click start>run type "cmd"

when cmd box opens type "nslookup"

    c:\> nslookup
    Default Server: <Your DNS>
    Address: <Your DNS IP>

    then type www.interpolnyc.com
    >www.interpolnyc.com

    you should get the following answer;

    Non-authoritative answer:
    Name: interpolnyc.com
    Address: 64.27.62.58
    Aliases: www.interpolnyc.com

    if not type "server 208.67.222.222"

    > server 208.67.222.222
    Default Server: resolver1.opendns.com
    Address: 208.67.222.222

then test again, if you get the correct response then the issue lies with your DNS servers

Thanks qbasic...I got the correct answer each time so it is my dns server...

    What should I do now?

What ISP are you with out of interest? I have problems using Vodafone's DNS servers.

Logon to your router and manually set your DNS servers to OpenDNS' servers
    208.67.222.222 &
    208.67.220.220

Yes I'm with Vodafone, was BT...

Success! Changed to open dns and it worked...

Will this effect anything else? Just so I know....

    Thanks.

No, you're just using a different DNS to resolve sites to IP's

OTOH, I have an issue with www.tv3.ie

Have 4 laptops who can all reach it, except for mine a ping gives this

    C:\Documents and Settings\Generic>ping www.tv3.ie

Pinging www.tv3.ie [79.140.139.13] with 32 bytes of data:

    Destination host unreachable.
    Destination host unreachable.
    Destination host unreachable.
    Destination host unreachable.

    Ping statistics for 79.140.139.13:
    Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 0, Lost = 4 (100% loss),

    C:\Documents and Settings\Generic>

    C:\Documents and Settings\Generic>nslookup www.tv3.ie
*** Can't find server name for address 10.0.0.1: Non-existent domain
*** Default servers are not available
    Server: UnKnown
    Address: 10.0.0.1

    Non-authoritative answer:
    Name: www.tv3.ie
    Address: 79.140.139.13

Again, all other lappies can get to it but I cant. I tried adding a route as follows

    route add 79.140.139.0 10.0.0.1

    Any ideas ?

What results does a tracert give you?

    c:\>tracert www.tv3.ie

It not a DNS issue as you are resolving to the correct IP.

Adding that static route won't make any difference as you already receive a default route from your router containing a route out.

Have made any other static routing entries? dump your route print here

    c:\>route print

    Most odd

    C:\Documents and Settings\Generic>tracert www.tv3.ie

    Tracing route to www.tv3.ie [79.140.139.13]
over a maximum of 30 hops:

    1 Destination host unreachable.

    Trace complete.

When I try connect to it I do make the initial connection, however it doesn't load.. top message is displayed in the browser tab "Catch-up TV, Entertainment, News, Sport" etc etc

AAARGH.. Whats wrong.. I'd normally be able to figure this out myself, so its really bugging me..

    Heres a tracert to google

    C:\Documents and Settings\Generic>tracert www.google.ie

    Tracing route to www.l.google.com [66.102.9.99]
over a maximum of 30 hops:

    1 101 ms 14 ms 3 ms 10.0.0.1
    2 38 ms 53 ms 26 ms 109.255.61.1
    3 16 ms 15 ms * 188.141.126.193
    4 16 ms 12 ms 19 ms 089-101-174158.ntlworld.ie [89.101.174.158]
    5 62 ms 28 ms 37 ms 84.116.238.22
    6 12 ms 18 ms 14 ms 213.46.165.54
    7 15 ms 34 ms 26 ms 209.85.252.212
    8 * 463 ms 28 ms 64.233.174.187
    9 * 49 ms 197 ms 64.233.174.18
    10 12 ms 18 ms 15 ms lm-in-f99.1e100.net [66.102.9.99]

    Trace complete.

    And a route print.

    Any ideas ?

    C:\Documents and Settings\Generic>route print

    Folks,

    Figured it out.

My firewall has this "auto-block" feature. When looking at the statistics, the firewall said it had been attacked from 79.140.139.13, which is tv3's IP address.

I excluded the site from the auto-block feature and can now access the site.

My next question would be why the hell is my firewall thinking that the tv3 website is attacking me ?

The firewall indicates that there where 90 attacks since I reset the counter 5 mins ago. And then clicked the tv3.ie site ONCE.. Odd that it would rack up that kind of number in such a short space of time !

Still. Its up and running now so I'm happy !

Weird, I googled this exact problem and found this message board. I, too, cannot access interpolnyc.com

I was starting to think it was not available in Canada or something.

I'm now trying to figure out how to change the DNS for my router

    tv3.ie?

i dont know, but now I am going to see if my own security regards it as an attack.

what security software is saying youre being attacked by tv3?

    Symantic Client Firewall

Just opened tv3.ie and it is still saying its being attacked ??

Clicking on the site just a couple of times resulted in 1255 intrusion attempts.. haha.. Is my firewall a bit mad ?

Well something unusual is going on at your end then. ive got symantec's Norton Internet Security aaaand Im getting bubpkis.

Though I am fascinated at how they go to the effort of make a fake CGI video of irish weather instead of just using satellite imagery.
