    I know this is a bit vague as it all depends on weight/distance/speed but how much water should I take after a run? I drank loads throughout the day before a 8m run last night and then drank about 3 or 4 pints of water afterwards when I got home but I was up half the night going to the loo! I'm wrecked tired this morning:(

    It varys from person to person.... I generally would drink 2 to 3 liters during the day and then stop about an hour before a run. Wouldnt bring water with me unless its more than 8mile and then about a liter after my runs. (gen run in the evenings). some tips here from run republic

    Everybody is different so you will need to experiment to find what amount is right for you. That being said, it is generally recommended to drink at least 2 litres a day. But I only drink when I'm thirsty and 2 glasses before a run. A good indication of proper hydration is when the urine is a clear colour.

    Missed my run this evening. Should have done 3 miles but I got drenched coming home from work on the bike and there was no going out again. I might do it tomorrow, or I might just let it go. Will have to be early tomorrow, with the Dubs ouble-header in Croker. Can't be missing that.

    Picked up man flu on Monday night last.....As opposed to confning myself to bed for a few days I got up and out...Kept to the schedule and completed my 11 mile lsr this morning, albeit with pretty heavy legs!

    Thanks for the kind words corked ;)....Enjoyed my day off today, Nuro cold 'n' flu and the last of the Guinness on board before I go on the dry for the week leading up to the 5 mile......:eek:

    I have planed on doing the 5miler on saturday and just doing the LSR on sunday as normal, maybe just taking it a bit easier.
    5miles isn't that big a push so recovering shouldn't be too bad.

    I'm hoping to get out to Phoenix Park this week so do a trial run just to get a feel for the course, probably on wednesday evening.

    That's just my 2cents, I could be wrong...

    No reason not to do your LSR midweek if that suits you better, but take your usual rest day before and after it.
    I have planed on doing the 5miler on saturday and just doing the LSR on sunday as normal, maybe just taking it a bit easier.5miles isn't that big a push so recovering shouldn't be too bad.

    Have you raced before? If you really push yourself on Saturday you'll need more recovery than after a normal 5 mile run.

    I'm dropping the LSR myself, will just continue with the plan next week.

    Went out far too fast on LSR but was determined to get the 7 miles I missed from last week. Last two miles nearly killed me!

    Has anyone got a link to streching for the muscles on front of legs? I've noticed that after a run, mine have started to stiffen up.

    I do these stretches after a run (apart from the piriformis one, which just looks weird)
    Have no idea what's good for particular muscles though.

    I have raced before but as you can probably tell I have never really learned proper procedure for any of this. Also I have never had to follow a training plan such as I am now.

    Would doing an LSR on Thursday - Resting on Friday - Racing on saturday be pushing it or is it best to do the LSR earlier in the week?

    I reckon you'd run faster in the race if you had a longer recovery after the LSR. Just speaking for myself, I usually LSR on Saturday and if I run on the Monday I can still feel it in my legs. But your recovery may be faster, you'd have to judge it for yourself...

    Bad week for me after the half marathon last week. I changed runners and had problems and am back with my nimbus for a few weeks:(

    Anyway it caused slight shim pain so a few days off and back to it tonight.

    I'll do my LSR wen morning, prob around 10 and i have 5 miler in the park on sat morning.

    So did last weeks 7 Mile LSR on Tuesday - felt a twinge in my knee over the last 1/4 mile, thought nothing of it. Headed off for a 3 miler on Thursday and had to pull up after 1/2 a mile. Never had to do that before. Did my 9 mile LSR yesterday, knee feels a little sore again so will rest it for a few days and hope it'll be right on Saturday

    A question on gels, I tried out the SiS isotonic gel at the weekend LSR, found it pretty yuck & sickly. It was the tropical GO-Gel, has anybody any recommendations on alternatives?

    +1 on these stretches, these are pretty much what I do. The Pirformis one is great for the ITB (band running from hip to knee) and I would recommend it (looks worse than it is!!).

    I've only tried a PowerBar gel myself - caffeinated green apple. It was pretty disgusting too.

    Plan for this week:

    Week 4
    Monday | Tuesday|Wednesday|Thursday|Friday|Saturday|Sunday
    rest|3 m|4 m + 4*100m strides|3 m|rest|9 m|cross


    Stretching the long run out a bit more in week 4, up to 9 miles now. You should be starting to think about nutrition and hydration, particularly considering that quite a few of you will be on your feet for over 90 minutes at this stage, and it's July so there will possibly be heat to consider. Try and have some means of carrying water, or know where you can pick some up along the way.

    Week 5
    Monday | Tuesday|Wednesday|Thursday|Friday|Saturday|Sunday
    rest|3 m|5 m|3 m|rest|10 m|cross


    Another increase in mileage this week - 10 mile LSR and 5 miles for the midweek sorta-long run. I'm not going to add anything to the midweek run this week due to the slight increase in distance.

    Quite a few of you will probably be doing the Irish Runner 5 mile in the Phoenix Park this week (Saturday morning), and will be wondering what to do about the LSR. You have 2 options really.

    The first is to do your LSR midweek, preferably around Tuesday or Wednesday, and taking it very easy on your shorter runs (which you should be doing anyway). This would suit those among you who recover very quickly and will be fresh by Saturday for the race.

    The second is to treat the race as your LSR, and just get back to your normal LSR next week. For those of you who are already comfortable doing LSRs in the 9-12 mile range, I'd be more inclined to go with this option - particularly if you started the program early. You'll be back on track just fine next week.
