I'm thinking or running Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday and resting then for the race?

That's my plan. 5 recovery miles on Monday and Wednesday mornings, 8 at pace home from work on Tuesday.
On the one hand, I can't believe it's only 6 weeks tomorrow. On the other my legs are counting down the days to the taper.

I'm looking forward to the half now which is surprising given I'd no intention of entering it in the first place - Damn peer pressure, Yes Chinguetti I'm talking about you!;) Also wondering how in the name of Jaysus I'm gonna run 26.2 miles in a few weeks when I hobbled to the end of this weeks LSR?

Thanks Nachoqueen and Digger. Although what i wouldn´t have given for some rain and some cold Irish weather last night. Got in my 15m LSR, just ran for 2.5 hours. It was the toughest run i´ve ever done. Although a seafood dinner afterwards and 2 glasses of white wine made it all worthwhile. Is everyone starting a day earlier to aloow plenty of rest days before half, ie. what Ray is doing, Mon/Tue/Wed for short runs this week? Might do the same...

Have you raced before? If so what are your PBs? (Date and distance please!)

Great Ireland Run 2009 55 mins

Do you still need to take walk breaks in your training?

    No.

How much training do you currently do? Distances, how many days a week, cross training - whatever you think is relevant

Following the Hal Higdon plan, running 4 days a week. 30 to 40 miles per week.

What do you want to achieve? Dream finishing time and realistic finishing time?

I want to finish the marathon. I reckon I can do it in around 4hrs 30 mins, would be very happy with that.

How many days a week can you train?

    Four times a week.

Why are you running this marathon?

I always feel a sense of regret at DCM time as if it's a missed opportunity...well this year I decided no more regrets. Get training and do it

Hi lads been lurking here for a few weeks and decided to come out of the shadows. I did my lsr with Chinguetti, Brianderunner and Menoscemo today and ran 19.4 miles in 3.07. Wanted to say thanks to the lads ,I wouldn't have managed it without them. Really enjoyed the run in the Park the weather was perfect the company was good and the miles flew by.
Presumably there will be a 20 mile group run in a couple of weeks....can't wait to get out again.. :D

Would be very interested in seeing one sorted for the weekend of 2/3 October. That would be 3 weeks before DCM and a good time to get in that last really long run.

Everything going pretty well until I noticed my right knee didn't feel right last Wednesday. Ran 5 miles on Thursday and 13.5 yesterday but I know its not right and don't want to aggravate it.

    The plan:

    Week 13
    Monday | Tuesday|Wednesday|Thursday|Friday|Saturday|Sunday
    rest|4 m|9 m|5 m|rest|18 m|cross

Serious business! 18 miles this week for your LSR, the second longest run you will do before DCM. Look after yourself through the week too, you've probably noticed that your appetite has kicked into overdrive and that you may need a little more sleep. Don't fight it - your body is working hard now to get you ready for DCM and it needs some love.

    Week 14
    Monday | Tuesday|Wednesday|Thursday|Friday|Saturday|Sunday
    rest|5 m|9 m|5 m|rest|14 m|cross

Stepback week, zeroing in on the final push now! 14 mile LSR - this should feel quite comfortable at this stage considering you've already done 15, 16 and 18. Weekday mileage stays the same, I'm not adding in any PMP work because I don't particularly want to put you under any more stress at this stage - but feel free to add a few miles at pace if you feel up to it.

Discussion topic: A lot of you will be doing the half in the Phoenix Park on Saturday. This should act as a decent guide to your current fitness, and many of you will probably be surprised at how well you run. Don't feel tied to the pacers though - if you have 1:45 or 1:55 in you, go run that!
How are you arranging your week to allow for it?
What are you targeting time-wise? Racing it hard, or treating it as an LSR with a t-shirt at the end?

Same bat-time, same bat-place? (9am, Saturday, Phoenix Park) :pac:

Also, beerage reminder: There will be drinking done in Ryans in Parkgate Street after the half. :)

Drinking is always good especially when it is hard earned. :D, now someone just has to plot a course that ends at the pub.
I will deffo join up with youse for the 20 miles on 3rd october. It will also be my last really long one.

I should be on for an lsr that weekend as the wknd of 3 Oct. is looking dodgy at the moment. Definitely feel like I need one more long one before the big day.

The route looks the same to me just without the loop at the zoo and they've got us circling the triangle beside the Papal cross.

8,000 is a lot of bodies.

Best week in a long time - after a good few weeks taking it very handy waiting for knee to heel, felt it was time to up the speed on the midweek runs, so did that just to see what kind of time I could expect for the half, got some good times in but still no idea on what I'll do for the half really. time for the Kildare in May was 1:58. Would be delighted to beat that but really not sure, most of my training runs recently have been a lot slower than that so might just treat it as an LSR...I'll head out with the sub 2 group and see how I feel...

Anyway for me the real highlight was last night - headed out for my 18 miler a bit apprehensive to be honest. Didn't really enjoy the previous weeks 15 and 16 and was also my first run with trying gels. Anyway took the gels at mile 5, 10 & 15. They were ok. Not the nicest feeling ever but I just knocked them back with a load of water and no stomach reaction thank god. Got to mile 16 feeling good - the last 2 miles was an out the road for 1 and back jobbie so said what the hell and went out the road for 2 and back. 20 Mile LSR in the bag. had no intention of doing that but just felt good so went for it. Delighted now to get it in - won't be dreading it in 3 weeks now...!!

Where are we meeting for this pre race photo? With 8,000 runners plus crowds there'll be standing room only in the park.
