    I had intended to go and do 18 miles but added in an extra loop that brought mileage up to 20. Was fairly wrecked for mile 18-19 and just did the plodding along thing to hit the 19 miles. I just couldn't keep going after that.

    Strangely enough, aerobically I was fine it was just my legs that gave out. Could this be the mythical "Wall"? I had plenty of water (1.5 ltrs)& 3 gels during run so I think I have to look at my nutrition before LSR as well. 10-15 mins later at home I was fine.

    Any thoughts?

    So a bit of a downer of a run for me. On the other hand, I never thought I'd be complaining of a 19 mile run being not good enough:D:D

    I often find that the first time I do a distance - 20, or 16, or whatever - I find the last couple of miles tough, but the next time its easier. Nothing to do with nutrition or fitness (I think), just a psychological thing.

    Ya I have jumped massively through training the last month and I feel good like but I genuinely do think nutrition is an issue with and something I need to rectify over the next week or two...i would love to get a diet plan for the four weeks coming up to the the marathon so as to just build myself up ya know

    Hope you're right RayCun. Did 18 on Saturday and also was aerobically sound but legs got very tired after 16, hobbled in at 18. Had the advised porridge, blueberries, honey, tea, toast before, iso during run, water and 2 maxifuel gels. Seriously hoping it is a psychological thing. I've heard that the "mojo" comes back after mile 22 - 23, is this true?? ""Respect the distance"".......I'm terrified....

    You'll be ok. Remember that the taper will do a lot for you too.

    Pasta,Pasta,Pasta,Pasta,Pasta,Pasta,Pasta,Pasta, lots of water, fruit, chicken, fish - some red meat (not burgers) Pasta,Pasta,Pasta,Pasta,Pasta,;)

    Go for white rice and pasta as opposed to the alternative as it converts quicker from carb to glycogen. Try having some pasta with the above too:D

    Edit: If you prefer rice, Cous Cous, noodle, potatoes, they will do just as well.;)

    I hate pasta but ate loads of it in the week before DCM to 'carb up' but it left me feeling ill and bloated. It affected my stomach detrimentally on the day.

    Pasta is not a magic food. If you prefer rice, Cous Cous, noodle, potatoes, they will do just as well.

    But yes to keep your glycogen stores topped up you need to eat a lot of carbs.

    Legs felt tired for the last mile, but overall after a couple of hours felt pretty good again. No niggles to report so all in all a good week, especially after not really following the plan for the past two weeks

    Right maybe a bit silly to ask but sure may as welll ....
    I am still sore from yesterday but I kinda wna go out and do like a couple of miles as a kind of recovery run,.... your thoughts please???

    Am I being stupid???

    And @ Mr. Slow....so basically what you are saying is to not eat any pasta right?? Cuz its not good for you :p:p

    I don't think I got enough carbs into me for such a long run (although I had a good pasta lunch and porridge for breakfast). I got the shivers within 5 minutes of finishing and felt physically sick for a good hour after the run. I only took one gel on my run as I felt fine for most of it. I'm going to take at least three next weekend and see if their is any improvement. I suppose the trick is to take the gels before you feel you need to.

    I've the same one as you... I put two isogels in the elastic on the side of the pouch, another gel inside along with my door keys and some cash so could easily fit 5 gels total imo.

    Actually, homemade burgers (made with lean mince) aren't the worst thing you could have. It's the horribly processed, crappy supermarket ones that are problematic.

    Perkina3|3|33| c. 270?| Training been a little disrupted over the last couple weeks but got out to do a 5 mile which is nice an handy, 8 mile sat night which was good (had a nice pace going there), 20 mile yesterday.. Had to walk the last little bit cuz I suddenly became very weak but finished the last half km at a run so cuda been worse. Learned a couple of valuable lessons re: nutrition which I hope won't hit me again!|

    Actually, homemade burgers (made with lean mince) aren't the worst thing you could have. It's the horribly processed, crappy supermarket ones that are problematic.

    Round steak minced, onions softened in virgin olive oil so as not to blacken during bbq, a little seasoning and I had sesame seeds on the bun!!!;)

    Right knee acting up the last couple of weeks, managed to get through my LSR despite it and was delighted to be able to do it, hopefully can keep it going for the next 4 weeks

    Got drowned wet running home from work on Wednesday last. No.1 runners just dried out for 20.5 mile LSR on Saturday evening. Once again, late getting going, so finished in the dark (about 9). Hard to run in the Park when it really is dark, no street lights and blinded by car lights. The old right knee was very sore at times during long run, but finished it out ok.
    Plan to do one more big week of 5,10,5,20 (or might even push on to 22).

    Yeah Rainbow I will take ur kick in the ass now in advance as there is a fair chance I could be out for a 20 mile on friday with someone I am hoping to ruin with on the day.... to see if I can maintain the pace with her....

    That is on top of a 6 mile/8 mile and prob a 15 mile on Sunday too.... I know I know I am sorry but I promise I will start tapering from next monday!
