The long game is afoot here in the entire privatisation of the state & the removal of any state control over anything.

Seriously can't see this as the long term outcome. England had to get a bailout in 1976:

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/politics/4553464.stm

And yes I know Margaret Thatcher went on a programme of privatisation during her reign as Prime Minister but was this not more to do with the political ideology of the Conservative Party and the notion of small government?

The fact is that the left are looking more and more likely to cripple our chances of recovery by not wanting to tackle the elephant in the room that is our grossly overpaid and overpopulated civil service.

Sound - have been keeping the head down for January - will try pop along to this, it suits me that it's on a Friday (my new night out, Saturdays are still off limits as I'm up at 8.30 am Sunday mornings)

Yea don't bother with it, I just usually listen in and not bother to watch.

Let me look at Steffi though?

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,019 ✭✭✭ianuss

Well it's just that I haven't had a proper look yet, plus I've never seen her before. The slight double chin is a bit of a give away that she's not a stunner -but I'd still like to see her all the same.

Ha i have to laugh here, next time you watch a film count the seconds between the screen changes, not usually more than 5 seconds or so is the average but you never noticed until there is something you want to keep yer eye on.

This thread seems to have its trends firmly down now,

    1. Politics left, right, centre & jeff
    2. Vinyl v's digital
    3. Rejection of religion

Will probably be along myself so, as long as there's company. Didn't fancy heading in on my tobler to something where the only two people I knew were busy in the booth all night!

Anyone here been to or know someone who has lived/worked/visited Jersey in the Channel Islands over the last few years? I'm seriously considering taking a job there and want to find out what it's like as the only person I know who's been there did it over 10 years ago.

Also on my radar, knew a guy who spent a few years there and loved it, was thinking on heading back actually, pretty sure he said its difficult to get into property over there, decent enough weather and in a nice location

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,111 ✭✭✭joker77

A couple I know moved to Guernsey (same thing?) there a couple of years ago. She got headhunted for a big job, so it was worth it. Haven't seen them that much since, but have heard that there is definitely work there, and it seems this 'hard to get in' thing is overstated. They seem to be having a great time though - bought a place here, renting it to other friends of mine, no plans to move home.

I never really understood why they couldn't be made to take even a 20% hit. No investment is risk free.

100% hit should be the starting points of the negotiations & then we decide if we should move from that at all based on negotations.

On Morning Ireland today, Daniel Gros, Centre for European Policy Studies, says Ireland is in a position to play hardball with Europe over the terms of the bailout. Link here:

    http://www.rte.ie/news/morningireland/

Basically he was recommending that Ireland should just pull out of Europe.

After that I had a cup of tea, a biscuit and thought about religion
