Old gamer new Rig

Hi guys,
I have been away from the rig building for a few years and have been getting my gaming fix on consoles.
I have been thinking over the last few months that I wouldn’t mind building a new rig so I got a few euro together and am ready to spend it,
Below is my first attempt at a list of parts, so if you season rig builders could give me your input I would be oblige. It will be mainly used for gaming and some photo and video editing.

Intel I5-750 2.5GHz

Looks plenty nice to me, although you'd get away with a Corsair VX550 or similar for PSU, maybe the TX650 instead if you wanted a really big OC...

I will go for the TX650 alright comes in a little cheaper and reports are good on it.

Then I was thinking I may build a AMD phenom 965 rig, I haven't added it up but I think it could come in cheaper for a Similar setup.

Now this is why I stopped building rigs in the first place

Going AM3 gives you good opportunity to go hexacore later and the newer chipsets' USB3/SATA3 implementation urinates upon that of LGA1156 from a great height... but I'm not sure if you'll be able to find any USB3/SATA3-enabled mobos so cheap at the moment and LGA1156 has some decent longeity simply on dint of how much processing power you can crank out of a heavily OCd i5-750 - that ain't gonna be flustered by anything for a good while yet! Whereas X4-965BE usually has difficulty hitting 4GHz cleanly and the hexacores, while awesome, aren't really neccessary for any current games

tbh id go with the i5 everytime. intels are beasts for overclocking and also i was reading some reviews for the new 6 core amd's and in real world test they are roughly the same as the i5 720. and in gaming results the i5 beat the 6 core amd 1090T(best one) by nearly 10% on all games tested. IMO for gaming thats the way to go

I am back again for some more input, I was looking on some tech forums and came across the new GeForce GTX 470

It's only 60 euro more than the 5850 and reports are good on it, anyone got to use one yet?

You can also cook eggs on it. Massive power draw and resulting noise and heat issues abound. Given its not much better than the HD5850 and a good €80+ more expensive I'd give it a miss.

the only thing bout the nvidias is that its very early days in terms of drivers. and nvidia have a nak of gettin alot out of the cards with the driver updates. but again thats not guarenteed. id still go with the 5850.
