Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Messi: 44 goals in 51 games
Rooney: 34 goals in 43 games
Drogba: 33 goals in 42 games
Cristiano Ronaldo: 32 goals in 33 games
Gonzalo Higuain: 28 goals in 37 games
David Villa: 28 goals in 42 games
Di Natale: 26 goals in 37 games
Diego Milito: 26 goals in 48 games
Diego Forlan: 26 goals in 54 games
Darren Bent: 25 goals in 48 games

Should give some insight into how the World Cup might turn out. Ronaldo has been outstanding, pity he was out from late September to December.

    What a great title!

Are only players from Italy, Spain and England's respective leagues allowed to play in the World Cup now?

ronaldo has the best strike rate considering he's been somewhat overshadowed by messi (if these stats are correct)

What is you problem? He is just showing the top scorers from the three best leagues in Europe.

There is a problem though, this is not just league goals its including European and domestic cup games.

    yeah!

I was drunk one night and i accidently flicked past Sky Sports and found this wee channel called EuropeSport or something like that. That had all sorts of weird countries playing football on it, like Germany!
Seriously...Germany playing football! I'd never seen anything like it! ;)

Luis Suarez wins. I've a feeling Uruguay will sneak the quarters too, some very good players.

As pointed out in my original post...the title is ridiculous.

top scorers in Europe this season (from EPL, La Liga and Serie A)

Also, the fact that this will somehow decide the fate of the world cup, is presumptious to say the least.

Bendtner will wipe the floor with those guys at the world cup.

I looked up the German league and there top scorers are below the strikers here, Kevin Gameiro is the top scorer in France with 18 goals. The french and german are the best below the big three.

Regards the latin teams, their best national players are virtually all in europe.

How many did Huntelaar get for Ajax? I forget again, you might be able to pluck out the figures.

What about Alves when he was in Holland? They went to Real Madrid and Boro respectively, and failed to make a big impact. And I do think the list will have a big impact on the world cup, are the strikers who scores less than they strikers here going to make a bigger impact in the world cup?

ugh im not getting into to this but ill make it simple Suárez is a different beast altogether, as regular Eredivisie watcher Suárez is imo the real deal

and he'll prove it in the WC

plus van the man came from Holland how did he turn out :)

the answer is clearly a player who played in Scotland.

My guess would be that it's Eirebear's hero, Henrik

44 goals for Man United in a season? Don't hand him to the garbage man yet. He proved himself abroad, whereas the others, did not.

Well the title is exactly whats in the tin so I don't see a problem with that.

As for the World Cup, well the form of the best players is going to have an impact on it.

If you look at the favourites for the World Cup almost everyone of the top players from those teams are playing in those three leagues with the exception of the Germans.

    you dont get it

van the man came from holland and made a huge impact at utd, so to say the likes of Suárez will fail when he gets to the bigger club (no offence to ajax fans) is tad rubbish

    Mickey Mouse league.

Goals in that league only carry a 1.5 rating and rightly so.

Some chap from the Austrian league nearly won the golden shoe last season!

Indeed, defence in the dutch league is abysmal. In saying that it will be interesting to see how he does wherever he goes.

I know it's not the best league around alright but doesnt take away from his accomplishment

I just think it's unfair to criticise a player before he even joins a bigger club
for every Huntelaar there's a RVN and vise versa

Hey CorkMan, do some of those numbers contain international goals / games? A couple of them look wrong otherwise.

I'm not sure. Messi has only 13 in 44 for Argentina, but he is only 22 and improving, same with Higuain.

Larsson went from that "Mickey Mouse" league to another...but then he didnt do too badly as an aging player in 2 of the "Big 3" or internationally for that matter.

Van Basten, Bergkamp, Ronaldo, Van Nistelrooy, Kluivert, Kanu etc. over the last 15-20 years have not been to bad

If you are in any way a decent striker you will score bags of goals in the Dutch league. I am sure if you put Messi in it he would score about 60. Look at Kuyt and Alves as recent examples - once they came to a higher quality league they flopped. So has Huntelaar to a lesser extent and as for RVP he has never been in any way prolific but then again he was never a striker. The odd one will impress but there are too many that do not. Bergkamp was also never as prolific once he left the Dutch league though still a wonderful player. Also Kanu has never been prolific. RVN and Ronaldo are the most prolific strikers to come out of the Dutch league in the past 20 years.
