I have maybe close to 80 6x4 prints, I want them up on a wall, tacking them on the wall will look rather ...well tacky... any suggestions on how to do this... cheap, a giant frame is not an option :D

4 large sheets of thick card-board, 20 pics on each. Pencil in 5 x 4 [or 4 x 5] slots just under 6x4" [make a stencil this size], glue the pics onto another, same sized sheet in coinciding position and glue the cut-out sheet over it?

hummmm that was one of my options... hoping for a more refined solution, could look a bit tacky

I know nothing about mounting tbh, but it could be done non-tacky that way if all else fails. Plain white card sheets and if the spacing is accurate, I think it might actually look very well. I'm sure someone will have better suggestions though :)

Someone posted links here once for a different way of hanging pictures. Depending on room decor of course but it was like a line with pegs holding the pictures which looked quite funky. Wouldnt be my thing but it didnt look half bad.

ok so how about 2 clear acrylic sheets from the diy store with each of the images mounted neatly in between and then hung on the wall, or if you were to do it really well you could have Steve sort out good acrylic for you with nice fittings so it could sit a few cm's out from the wall. If thats still too much then mount them on cardboard covered by wallpaper with windows cut out of it to suit, that would be quite diy though and time consuming.

Why are large frames a no no? What if you got small cheap frames for each one and hung an inch apart.

That's sort of what I meant, but you explain it better :D

I've seen something like this nearer to home but can't remember where - is that the jist of what you are looking for?

acrylic will probably cost you as much as some cheap frames, and then you still have to mount the pics in it AND hang it on the wall.
Unless you go for something like ancatdubh said above, I think you're going to be better off with ikea.

i could cut you mounts with 20 apretures in them

and back them so you would have basically very big mounts with 20 prints in each one

That sounds good value, I'd go with that. That plastic sheet posted above looks terrible tbh.
