Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I'm gonna start to learn to play the guitar in June(I'll have time then, as I'm in school atm) so I was just wondering what would be the best guitar to start learning on?
    Acoustic, not electric.

    Thanks.:)

What music do you listen to and intend to play? Whats your budget?

Favourite bands/people that have guitars in their songs would be Jason Mraz and Mumford and Sons, mellow enough like, not into heavy rock or any of that kinda stuff.

Don't have a clue about guitar prices, tbh. I could get a sub from parents if I don't have the money, but I wouldn't go over 250, I'd say, but as I said I don't have a clue about prices.:o

This is on the pricey side for a beginner guitar, but you might be able to pick one up cheaper if you shop around. Excellent guitar, lovely tone (little bit quiet though), and is 15/16 normal size which makes it much easier to play.

Good luck and stick to it.

Its tough because I could say spend 250 and get a decent one but you might not take to the guitar like so many dont and thats the money wasted or I could say only buy a cheap one, wont be as nice to play but if you dont continue to play it wont be so much of a loss!

Its a balance youll have to choose! Check out http://www.adverts.ie

go for the very best you can afford - it'll be easier to play than something cheap, and if you don't take to it it'll be easier to sell on as well.

Here is a link. It is definetly worth considering due to its excellent value. I do not know how they sell them so cheap. Washburns own stock sell D-10 for $499. I am not sure why there is such a price difference. You can buy one for an average of 140 - 250 euro.

I have a washburn myself and they are a good choice. They have a good sound and the neck is easy to play. I am not sure why but Washburn D10 is alot easier to play than some guitars I have used. Mind you it cost me over 300 euro in 1997 so they are cheaper now. I have a korean model.

I would go to argos or somewhere like that, look for deals (starter kits)

Nice, you can't go too far wrong with tanglewood as a starter guitar.

loads of great lessons in the instrument and techniques forum and elsewhere online but if you could get yourself one or two with a teacher at the start it would really stand to you. best of luck.

I don't know if this is allowed but you might start a guitar log here somewhere (ask a mod) to track your progress and get help with any difficulties you might encounter. I know they do it in the fitness forum. Might help keep you on track.
