Hey guys, I am looking at doing a model dolmen in the front garden. Any ideas where I could source large flat stones. Going for this effect:

Errr... how big will it be? And where are you? You can get decent sized stones from some landscape/garden centres if you are only looking to make a model.

Otherwise well maybe cast them from hypertuffa http://hypertufa-projects.blogspot.com/ is one website about it, there are others. Some horrible things are made from tuffa, but if you go about it carefully you could get a quite reasonable effect.

Call to your local quarry - they will usually have what you want. Where are you located?

Hi Fatswaldo. I see you are from Loch Garman, I am from the New Ross Area. I recently attended a stonewall construction course, very basic but found it to be great introduction. The picture shows the results of the first days work. Im thinking of building my own wall at home similar to the one shown. Its not gona rival the great wall of china, but more of a feature in garden. Theres a local quarry Oaklands outside New Ross but im looking for alternatives.

Do you have any experience with other quarries or know of any quarries aimed at smaller consumers?

    Thanks for any help?ui=2&ik=68eeec0750&view=att&th=13c201a53adcefde&attid=0.3&disp=inline&realattid=3c3a41847ec9a20f_0.3&safe=1&zw&saduie=AG9B_P82FGvS6f_3cmHIuPzrAWJ2&sadet=1357768671389&sads=MGA5vj7x194IB49NlUlw9Ibo5qk

Staff1968, I'm from the same area. Oaklands is the place I would use and even for small stuff I find them helpful. You cant exactly go and have a look around but if you call to the office abd explain what you need they will tell you whats available. You'll also pay less than at a garden centre etc.
