Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

just wondering where people see their greatest challenges, in areas they'd like to explore.

i'd love to try some less candid portraiture; i've gotten my fair share of good portraits, but would like to try some more stylised (or contrived, if that's not a perjoratve term) shots. main problem is coming up with an idea which is not embarrassing to explain to friends to pose for...

I'm lacking a Leica, which would answer the second part as well. :D

There is always something to improve on. Firstly I am brutal at landscapes and would love to be able to go out there and set my eye on something that would make a stunning landscape but its not in me.

Another thing I am trying to improve on is including more candid shots in my wedding portfolios.

Lastly, I need to learn how to push sales, when working and someone orders say 10 prints from me I often feel like I should be giving them a discount rather than trying to push for more.

I would like to get better at groups and be better at explain how I'd like them to get into a group 'shape' I'd like.
So far I'm ok with 3 and more than that I find hard.

Pretty much anything involving photographing people indoors, I've no idea how to use flash properly.

    Must start looking into it....

I'd really like to improve my landscapes - it's all about composition and I can tell when a photo works but when I get out into the real life 3D world and I'm trying to represent all that that is in something so reductionist... it's difficult. Serious props to landscape photogs.

Isolatory photography (macro, portraits) etc I tend to be quite good at (if I do say so myself) but we are all always improving (hopefully)

Photographing people, not sure if you'll find more than two or three on my entire Flickr!! Always find pointing a camera in someones face a bit obtrusive...

As I heard somebody respond to a similar question:

I'd love to take the shot I think I'm taking

Havent a clue about flash photography. Ive never used an external flash in the years I've been taking shots. Going to read the hotshoe diaries to start off.

I seem to 'see' in b&w- I really need to get myself into the frame of seeing a shot i want to take in full colour, if you know what i mean? There's only so much monochrome you can do before someone calls you a poncey git. (Has happened already, sadly...)

Bugger that! Get yourself onto http://strobist.blogspot.com/2006/03/lighting-101.html and have a wander through. I literally just started shooting flash stuff this weekend and once you've got a flash and either a long cable to stretch it from the hot shoe or a set of cheapy radio triggers you're set. Digital is so handy in terms of trying things out, failing miserably and moving in a linear fashion towards what you want with shoot, tweak, shoot, tweak. That site is a mine of information and the strobist group on flickr is a great source of inspirational shots and direct info on how they were shot.

Personally it's landscapes for me - I've been to some stunning places and the photos never reflect how they looked. Real shame since I probably won't be back to a lot of them.

I have the opposite problem. I just can't envisage B&W.

I also need to get MUCH better at PP.

I need more practice at taking portrait shots. And sports too, never my strong point
