Well its not totally lawless, yes the Criminals face slim to no chance of being arrested and charged, whole Communities live in daily fear and innocent People are being shot dead and their Families are then treated like common Criminals at the behest of common Criminals - But I still wouldn't let my Motor Tax go unpaid or exceed the speed limits......

How dare anyone criticise the failure of our State to uphold our constitutional right to live our lives without Scum ruining and ruling our City with impunity.

When are you going to get the message???
Regardless of whether the gardai sit on their asses or work day and night for free,it wont solve the problem.
    The problem is the system.
    Revolving door sentences.
Gardai can do nothing.i repeat nothing about that.

With all due respect and not criticising you personally, but simply challenging your point - That is utter nonsense.

Furthermore, if you want to patronise People with a pained expression on your face, then you should really do so from a platform that is fundamentally sound while using sensible, logical arguments.

Some of it is not the fault of the Gardai, but things like not responding to calls is the fault of Gardai.

And this was highlighted last week in the paper by three councillors after the residents of Ballinacurra and Ballinacurra Gardens had enough of no shows from Gardai and a wave of anti social behaviour, robberies and violence in their area.

It is also the cause of a meeting that will be held at City hall soon with the residents and councillors and other city officials attending with invites sent to Roxboro Gardai to sent their representatives.

People in the area have itemised phone bills to show the amount of calls made to that station and photos were taken of the burnt out cars by both sports clubs, the overturned cars belonging to residents, the broken windows, the fires lit at the backs of people's houses, and various other things all happening daily.

The only person that was trying to make out that nothing much was going on was Jim Long who lives in Ballinacurra Gardens but who locals know not to even bother going to about issues as the likes of Joe Leddin and Maria Byrnes are quicker follow through on issues and even Pat Kennedy has gotten involved and was publicly quoted in the Limerick Post about residents contacting him over no responses from Gardai.

I have my mother living in the area and I have lost count of the number of times I have had to drive over when a window was broken, and have witnessed an assault there on a driver who stopped after his windows were smashed by six scumbags, but despite calling the Gardai as it was happening and then staying with the driver for almost half an hour afterwards, no gardai turned up. I rang that station back the next day and got a smarmy answer from a counter garda claiming that without a house number they cannot send out a car, which is total BS.

DUNDON HITS OUT: Limerick crime boss says he's afraid to leave his housePremium Article

Wayne Dundon speaks to Alan English, editor of the Limerick Leader and Limerick Chronicle, yesterday

WAYNE DUNDON, one of the most feared criminals in the country, says he is afraid of leaving his house in Limerick's Hyde Road.

He claims to be a virtual recluse since he got out of jail five weeks ago, after serving five years for threatening to kill Ryan Lee, who had refused to allow his 14-year-old sister into Brannigan's pub in December 2004.

"I haven't left my door. I'm afraid to leave my door," he says.

"I can't leave my house in case Steve Collins sees me and says I threatened him again. All he has to do is say that and I get another 10 years
    ."

Mr Dundon visited the Limerick Leader offices at 54 O'Connell Street yesterday to complain about photographs of his daughter's Communion being published in local and national media.

He said he was angered by criticism of the Cinderella style carriage at his daughter's Communion.

Sickening the crap he comes out with and just as sickening is the Limerick Leader for publishing his views again in their paper. The fact that the Chronicle have deemed this criminal's views worthy of getting two pages, pages six and seven, of their paper has guaranteed I won't waste another cent on any of their papers from here in.

For a guy who is so scared to be out and about, it did not stop him going around a few housing estates after being released, and it did not stop him drawing attention to himself outside with the chav carriage for the communion.

Seems a bit attention seeking for a "recluse".

Instead of berating Mr Dundon we should be praising him for being the first person to provide empirical evidence of co-location.
After all, how is he able to be be in the Limerick Leader offices and NOT leave his house at the same time!!!
Stephen Hawking move over, we have a new leader!!! :)

Just seen the actual paper for today.

Dundon gets most of the front cover.

He gets all of the sixth page, where he gets to air his views that Steve Collins has lied about him and that Steve Collins has a vendetta against him , that he (Dundon) is a victim of a miscarriage of justice, that there are no gangs in Limerick and no drug problems here.

On page seven he gets to mouth off about the media coverage of the communion and how there were 500 people at the communion in Southill who all waited for his daughter afterwards and showed "respect"

Nice to see the Limerick Leader/Chronicle jumps when it is told to, and can give prime coverage at such short notice seeing as the "complaint" was only made by Dundon to them on Monday afternoon.

If that scumbag knew where I worked and complained about something I did in the course of my job I probably would "jump when told to" - even though it would go against my principles to give in to bullies I'd just take the have to take the pragmatic approach.

And in fairness it's not like they published a full-blown apology to him, they just allowed him his right of reply - although judging from his claims that there is no drug problem/gang violence in Limerick he's delusional/a liar as well as a fat violent thug.

Giving him coverage as the main front page picture and two more pages inside the paper is a joke.

If they wanted to be pragmatic they could have listened to his complaint and nodded their heads.

It did not mean that he warranted three pages of publicity. They could have condensed what he said to a few quotes and relegated him to a small headline and maybe a paragraph if they wanted to.

I wonder did he go and complain to all the other papers that carried the story, and if so will they be giving him the same front page treatment. I look forward to seeing all the other papers giving him the same amount of paper space for his views, have a funny feeling that none of them will though.

Basically it has painted a scenario that he can go to the paper on a Monday afternoon and get his views put in print for the following day. I wonder if Joe Public wanted to run to their office today and demand that a story be ran in tomorrow's paper that was littered with claims that had no evidence to back them up would that story be ran, let alone with as much visibilty as this story?

Where is the radio report today telling the public that the Gardai are looking into the claims he made about them in the article?

All I see is a criminal getting his own way and a rag of a paper jumping when told to.

see all this is why i think many people are happy with the status quo in Limerick. The money involved is staggering.

Papers selling more having these scum on their front pages (and the likes of Paul Williams and others making a packet from the sale of their books, public appearances on radio / tv)
Cops making money on loads of overtime/court cases appearances etc.
Solicitors making a fortune on court cases
Drug dealers making money from drugs (and even more now that headshop stuff is banned.)

everyone wins except the normal decent Limerick people
    why rock the boat..

I agree with you that when I first saw the front page I thought it smacked a bit of sensationalising the story, painting Dundon out to be some sort of celebrity figure, worthy of being listened too. Also if you or I had a complaint about something the paper said about us I doubt we'd have got such coverage given to our side of the story.

@vkid, I don't think the Chronicle will sell a substantially larger number of copies today because of their story.

My theory, and it's just a theory, that the paper gave him so much coverage because he's a ruthless violent criminal who possibly threatened them. That's how I think he got his own way.

@Kess: which radio report are you talking about? Maybe it'll be on the 6 o'clock bulletin.

There was no radio report which was my point. He made comments about how the gardai were "carrying on" and about them using "innuendo", and about how they made a case against him despite him saying he had video footage to prove his innocence. All these comments are reported in the paper as direct quotes from him. Surely that would warrant direct action from the gardai as they are being accussed of certain behaviour, and if it was a case that he is now claiming he produced evidence and statements in court that he did not do on the day, surely that would be perjury?

When Steve Collins had to be questioned over complaints made by Dundun, it made the Live 95FM news very quickly, surely a convicted criminal's claims against the Gardai should have warranted an official Garda staement through the media that they would be looking into those claims and that they would want to see this video evidence that Dundun claims he brought with him during his court case.

That is why I asked where is the radio report with the Gardai saying they would be investigating his claims.
