    Steve Collins hits back:
    http://www.limerickleader.ie/news/Steve-Collins-39totally-outraged39-by.6290801.jp
"Mr Collins said he was "disgusted" to see the claims of Mr Dundon published this week, as he believes he should not be given "any platform" in a newspaper.

Dead right, Alan English and the Leader should be ashamed to give that scumbag any sort of platform just to sell a few newspapers. Well said Steve Collins

Another article in the Sunday Tribune today

They have a list of the power balance in both gangs, our 20 year old friend gets a mention

is there any realistic chance of these fellows being released I wonder?

    http://news.eircom.net/topstories/17871768/

The evidence they were convicted on was quite slim, technically speaking. I wouldn't be surprised if they were set free.

The Independent have an article on Wayne almost every day of late. Now it seems that he is planning to move to Newcastle West. God help the locals:

"ONE of the country's most notorious criminals is seeking a country hideaway to escape a garda surveillance crackdown on his activities.

Wayne Dundon (32) is planning to move his entire criminal operation from Limerick city to the Newcastle West region in Co Limerick, the Irish Independent has learnt.

The feared crime boss has already looked at several properties in the town. One leading drug dealer has already fled the area over the past 10 days in advance of Dundon's move.

Dundon, who has been under 24-hour garda surveillance since he was released from prison in March, is officially unemployed and it has yet to be established how he will finance his planned purchase.

Members of his gang -- the McCarthy-Dundons -- are also desperately attempting to explore new illegal methods to earn cash as they come under relentless pressure from gardai and the Criminal Assets Bureau.

Meanwhile, the Irish Independent can reveal that the gang is trying to extort €100,000 from the son of a prominent Traveller from Rathkeale in Co Limerick.

Gardai are monitoring the situation as tensions increase between the McCarthy-Dundon outfit and members of the Travelling community in the area.

Since his release from prison, Dundon -- who claims to be a Traveller -- has been spotted regularly in west Limerick. His presence and considerable muscle are most feared in Newcastle West.

A drug dealer based in Newcastle West, who is connected to a rival gang from the southside of Limerick, left the town after learning of Dundon's plans.

The criminal was a well-known figure who regularly paraded in a high-powered 4x4 vehicle -- but he has not been seen in almost two weeks.

Dundon has briefed himself on several properties in the area. Located on the N21 route, Newcastle West is a 30-minute drive from the McCarthy-Dundon stronghold in Ballinacurra-Weston.

Last week, Dundon told a local newspaper he was fearful to leave his home in Hyde Road in the city since he was released from prison.

Gardai in Limerick have adopted a tough 24-hour 'in-your-face' stance with members of the McCarthy-Dundon outfit. Known criminals are routinely stopped and searched by officers on patrol.

In recent weeks, the gang has been left severely depleted after several members were arrested and jailed as officers attempt to break up the criminal organisation, which is regarded as one of the most cunning and dangerous in the country.

    Assassination

Dundon is under intense pressure as a result and even attempted to claim compensation from gardai in Limerick for damages to his property in recent searches.

However, associates of his gang continue to carry out criminal activities. An assassination attempt on a member of the Collopy criminal gang failed last week after a gunman in a fake taxi opened fire on a 27-year-old drug dealer.

Seven males, including two 17 year olds, were arrested as part of the follow-up investigation. All were later released without charge.

Following a TV documentary, Dundon made a complaint to gardai that he felt threatened by Steve Collins, father of Roy Collins, who was murdered by James Dillon, a member of the McCarthy-Dundon gang.

Mr Collins was interviewed by gardai and a file on the matter is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions."

If it's true WD is planning a move and succeeds, it will be a major escalation of the spreading of the crime/drug disease which hitherto quiet rural areas are already suffering.

Just what that area needs after the amount of scum that has already moved out there/being housed there from the city.

If the story is true the people of Ardagh/NCW/CastleMahon will have even more reason to lock their doors if the hangers on that follow the scum go out there too.

Not really a major escalation, just a continuation for his spread. People seem to be forgetting that this gang has already done likewise by getting properties in other towns already. Shannon and Ennis are two that have had the scum buy properties and take over the drug dealing in those towns, which led to an explosion of robberies/assaults/drive by shootings at rival's houses etc.

No doubt the Forces of Law and Order and the CAB have stepped up their campaign in this ongoing war? Or am I just naive, out of touch with reality and not street smart.Situation seems dire!

I can't imagine anyone trying to make a career outta extorting cash from Rathkeale Travellers in lump sums of ~100K reaching a pensionable age.

    - More like early retirement with a Slash Hook 'donated' instead of a Cross Pen.

They'd prob then just take the usual Traveller approach and leave the Body 30 feet from the Halting Site and keep insisting they know 'nothing about it Boss - Fella out from Lim'rick is it?' until the Gardaí lose interest.

Well I'm no Traveller Expert - But have you ever read the details of improvised Weapons confiscated after a good sized Traveller fight?

    - 2 mins on Google gives 3 ready examples; These are not People for mediation and compromise.

    Example 1

    Example 2

    Example 3

Excellent. Cathal McCarthy hits the proverbial nail on the head right there.

What's been interesting over the years is how the Travellers have embraced Media Manipulation and spin to the extent that nobody ever dares say a word against them.

For example the below quote is from their Spokesman at their "Travellers Development Group" (Development my triple-axle 16-Berth Caravan) after the Gardaí 'confiscated dozens of slash hooks, chains, iron bars, pitchforks and poles'
Mr Joyce said the incident had been blown out of proportion and the vast majority of Travellers involved were trying to quell tensions.

Yeah, nothing 'quells' a disturbance like 90 blood thirsty Travellers waving Slash Hooks and threatening to spill litres of each others blood......

Despite making a mockery of every, law, standard or limitation offered by Society Irish Travellers are so far beyond criticism due to rampant Political Correctness and their own clever Media handling that Wayne Dundon is even trying to join up these days just to put himself beyond reproach

so if they are trying to extort money from Rathkeale Travellers, that would be just another inter-Traveller feud to go with the ones in Waterford, Offaly etc.

Rathkeale Travellers do have a lot of connections in England so the Dundons are really upping the ante in taking them on.

That's what I think he is up to as well. He seems to be dropping the whole "I'm a traveller" comment in every interview since he came out. How long before he tries legal action over his traveller culture being impinged upon?

The Dundons have plenty of similar connections in the UK especially through their Casey and McCarthy links.

If it is true that the Dundon gang is making a move on the Rathkeale lot, then you can be sure that they know already that they have numerical advantage, otherwise they would not be thinking of it.

He has been in some 'fights' in the past...... He prefers to take on more mature opposition though.
At his 2005 trial for threatening the life of a barman in Limerick, evidence was given of his London offences. The court was told that he had thrown an elderly woman in a wheelchair down a flight of stairs, and had badly beaten another 75-year-old woman while stealing her pension book. The judge at his UK trial directed that Dundon be deported from Britain and it was at this point in 1997 that he and his three brothers moved from London to Limerick. People in Limerick say it was the arrival of the Dundons that set in train an escalation of murder and violence of an intensity never previously encountered in the city.

    What is a 'Traveller'?

    wikipedia says:
Irish Travellers (Irish: Lucht siúil) are a traditionally nomadic people of Irish origin living predominantly in Ireland and Great Britain, with a relatively small number in the United States.

He has been resident on the Hyde Road for about 10 years, and only resident there because he was kicked out of Britain. Nothing nomadic about it.
