It is Limerick's shame that Willie O'Dea polls so well at every general election. It does not say a lot for the intelligence of Limerick people unfortunately.

What people don't realise is that Willie O'Dea has done a huge amount of damage to the city. Ok, he represents the man in the street when he needs a pothole outside his house fixed, but his function as a TD is to draft the laws of the land, and if he did this properly (like he is supposed to do), then perhaps Limerick would not have the chronic problems that it has.

Willie O'Dea is an embarrassment to the city and the city is in the mire because of his inaction on major issues and his insistance in collecting votes (by doing a city councillors job) and making himself popular instead of actually doing his job.

    i like willie
he can only do so much, limerick has these bad problems, because of a few, those who break laws should be turfed out of those council houses in the first place, then only then will you have peace in certain areas

He could do a lot, lot more! Think about it.

He is a member of the govenment that oversaw the bankrupting of this country. Therefore, the 'new' unemployment that we have in Limerick is very much down to Willie and his ilk.

Crime in Limerick (particularly murder and violent crime) has soared since Willie and his government took office. They entered government saying they would be tough on crime, but they were the exact opposite.

There is a whole host of other issues that the government are responsible for, and Willie was an important figure in that government. Limerick people tend not to make the connection between their own lives and the government that is in power. Believe it or not, there is a strong connection, and there is a lot (an awful lot) more that Willie could have done for Limerick and Ireland. But instead he concentrated on being popular and getting tons of votes by getting simple things done (that would have been done anyway).

The truth is he could have done a lot more, but also by doing nothing which effectively is what Willie has done, the serious problems have grown such that they are now out of control.

I can't say a good word about the man or his party. A lot of people in Limerick are suffering because of him and his like. But they don't see it because he got the pothole outside their house fixed, instead of doing what he is meant to do.

Well expect his face in the paper again soon. He is at the official opening of the Summerville Rovers club house at the moment. No doubt another important vote catching appointment for him.

Funny how there was no sign of him around there when the residents of the same area where looking to speak with local councillors and TDs about all the problems in the area over the last few months.

A single achievement! Wow! And one whose groundwork was far, far more than FF alone

And anyway, how does this "achievement" relate to one dodgy, vindictive and non-attending politician who doesn't do accountability ?
In fairness, singular achievements are always thrown no matter who it refers to.

For example nobody can point any further than the extension to the MW Regional Hospital in relation to Michael Noonan, and who knows if that wasn't already in the pipeline.

But what similar achivement, even a singular one, can be pointed to as having been done for Limerick that O'Dea can be credited with? Surely a man who has been such a great voice for Limerick for so long should have a list to eclipse any that could be raised for the likes of Michael Noonan?

My main point in this thread is that I can find nobody that can point to a substantial achievement for Limerick that can be attibuted to O' Dea.

The whole medical card/advice/local issues thing holds no water for me in terms of being a great achievement as I can think of a number of local councillors who do this as well as O' Dea does.

The man is still an elected official who, if he was turning up in Dublin as his job title would suggest he should be, would still be a voice there for Limerick.

I have no idea if you agree or disagree with the one sentence that you quoted from my post. I was simply stating my opinion.

Whether you want to say you agree or not with that one sentence is your prerogative.
