Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Was the light close to your subjects face or did you shine it from far away? Did you shine it from underneath, to the side or directly in their face?

    Sorry for the questions but it's an excellent photo so I'm curious.

    Awww thanks :) it was taken with the light to the left of the face and a distance of about 3 or 4 feet. i used grease proof paper as a diffuser on the torch held on with elastic bands.

    Just purchased one. Looks like a grand little thing. Nicely priced, too. Cheers for the link!

    Tried my luck with a self-portrait effort the other night;

    img0342pp34.jpg

    I'm an ugly bastard, but I'm pleased with how it came out. Had to give it a fair bit of PP'ing to make it look a bit rougher/harsher than it originally was, but I'm pleased. I'm getting a guy to make me a Kane mask that I should get in the coming weeks, and I want to try and do a very similar portrait shot to the one above, but with the mask.

    I'm hoping it'll come out looking a bit sinister or such.

    Sounds odd but grease the threads when you get the torch otherwise they'll wear away.

    So my first attempt at mimicking achtungbarry's style. So i hdr' the image (a photo i took to HDR). Lashed into photoshop, i'd been wondering how you got that lined effect. It looks like the photo's outlines have been inked. My vain attempt at this was to use the glowing edges filter, desaturate, invert then colour burn (probably should've just deleted the white). Colour burned a texture on top, bit of gausian blur and thats all she wrote. Shouldve maybe vignetted the texture? Am I close?

    How flattered am I?

    Great first attempt at using textures. Well done. I like it.

    Personally I tend to resize my textured photo to the exact same size as the main image. I then drag the texture on top of the main photo and blend using overlay mode. I often duplicate the texture layer to increase the effect then mask some ares if too much detail is lost. I also tend to use a strong vignette. I'll put a proper tutorial on my site soon. In Tunisia at the moment............... where flickr is blocked :mad:. Will get cracking on tutorial when I get back. I am also using my time here to take sample shots for other tutorials.

    I'll leave it there as typing on an Arabic keyboard is tiring.

    Cheers mate! That's crazy about BP too. Would have been more iconic if I chucked a barrel of oil over one of the deck chairs!

    Aye, the lifebelt housing is exactly on a third. Might not have come across like it but I'm actually cursing the rule of thirds! Not that there's anything wrong with it, just think my brain is built to constantly use the damn rule.
