Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

A bet to be settled....

This year's Premier League Champions are Chelsea Football Club.

Now that the obvious is out of the way, let me proceed to the point of this thread.

Back at the start of the season, two posters in this forum made a bet. One poster was the Manchester United F.C. supporter, username 'Boggles'. The other poster was Chelsea F.C. supporter, username 'CHD'.

    The bet was:

Should Manchester United win the Premier League, CHD would leave the soccer forum forever, never posting again.
Should Chelsea win the Premier League, Boggles would leave the soccer forum forever, never posting again.
Should neither side win the Premier League the bet was null and void.

The 2009-10 Premier League Champions are, obviously, Chelsea Football Club.

    Sorry, Boggles... Tough luck.

    Well done, CHD. Nice hit.

What usually happens next is that the person who loses a bet like this tries to squirm out of it, you can expect Boggles to "offer" to stop posting for 12 hours or something equally ridiculous, but not even stick to that.

Then Boggles will start posting in the OTT, saying goodbye, that he's leaving in a week.

Then Boggles will go into complete meltdown mode and start making Feedback and HD threads about totally random crap, but with a not so subtle reference to some slight he felt he was a victim of six months ago.

Then Boggles will make thinly veiled posts, attempting to become a mod.

Then, Boggles will start to get Boards changed from what we all know and love into something that we'd all hate.

Then I'll write him a poem.

    because he's not here?

If i had a bet on with a neighbour and he moved to china would i still pay ?
    No

its the same in this instances imo.

but that's to do with not being able to get the money to him surely?

(EDIT: bar the obvious exception, as Xavi pointed out, of exchange of bank details!)

this is merely on the Internet.

i don't particularly want to see Boggles go, but he shouldn't have made such a stupid bet. i can guarantee you'd have expected CHD to never come back (even after his ban is lifted), if Utd had won the League.

    You wouldn't?

What if he e-mailed you and gave you his bank details to lodge the money in?
Not paying out on a bet is not cool.

Disclaimer: I don't want to see Boggles leave, I just hate when people welch on bet's.

There's only one fair way to settle this, CHD, you have 12 hours to post in this thread, if you want Boggles 'taken care of' otherwise he stays.

lol, I see the logic of betting is completely beyond you.

CHD is not banned forever and ever. Any disciplinary issues to do with his posting privileges on the forum are a completely separate matter to the bet that was made. For his banning to matter, the terms of the bet would have had to explicitly note that the bet was void in the case of one of the parties serving a ban at the end of the season.

If the bet was set and agreed, Boggles should walk. If he doesn't, he's welshing on a bet. Something I take a very dim view of.

something tells me all the Utd fans would have been baying for CHD to leave if it had worked out for them.

tbh, just do the donation thing and be done with it.

the topic here is a bet between two people, the time has come for the terms of the bet to put into action.
one of those persons cant come on to defend themselves, so im throwing out the notion to grant access to settle the bet, once thats done, return to the ban issued.
