Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

IMO Roberto Carlos should be in the brazil squad for WC2010

He is 37 years of age and is still in top form, playing 14 games for Corinthians and scoring 3 goals. Cafu played up to the same age aswell.

I still think Carlos could be top 4, possibly top 3 left backs worldwide. As long as he doesn't get injured, he's fine.

wonder how is he for pace now though? If he was caught out of position by some fast winger, would he be able to recover in time?

    Cole
    Evra
    Clichy
    Lahm

He's definitely not in the top three or four left backs.

I dont see why Brazil wouldnt play Dani Alves and Maicon in both full back positions, granted they are both naturally right sided but with 2 top class full backs like that at there disposal its an option they could look at.

I think that could work but I reckon that's too attacking for Dunga. Santos has done pretty well at left back anyway. He's even played Alves on the right wing a few times to good effect.

One of the most overrated players ever to have played the game imo. Certainly not good enough now.

No way will Dunga bring him back him. This Brazil team is not about accomodating the big names - just look at Ronaldinho. This is a team that knows its job and bringing in someone like Carlos now would be ridiculous.

Was he ever one of the top 4 left-backs in the world, even at his peak?

Maybe for about 30 seconds in Le Tournoi.

Agreed, he wasn't even that good at his peak....

He was in UEFA's Team of the Year in 2002 and 2003 so I'd say yeah.

This. Around 98 - 2004 he probably was around the top shelf of players in his position, mainly because of his extraordinary athletic ability and general professionalism. There were always gaping holes in his game though, and without his old quickness I can't imagine him being up to that level anymore.

Like a Brazilian Ian Hart really. His shot was his best attribute :D

His free kick scoring ratio was actually not great. I think it lived off that wonder goal against france.

I am not particularly a big fan of alves either. Seems to over hit alot of his crosses
