Another niteclub would go down a bomb IMO. All pints between €3 and €4. Special offers. Open on a Friday night.

So many opportunites, they could knock the other two in next week with customers. Why should we pay €5 for watered down pints every weekend?

Lets face it Virginia has 2 niteclubs, why can't the town have 3??

Been a while since i bothered with either nightclub in cavab TBH but were'nt both places struggling for punters on Fridasy and Sunday nights. therefore I cannot see someone attempting to take them on for just one good night's worth of sales.

I think a late bar with a DJ or similar would fair better. Like the white star.. do they still have that late licence? If somewhere like Sibin, Dempseys or the blackhorse serveed till 2-3am they'd do very well.

Don't forget...In cavan you almost have to give an arm and a leg to get in...€13....JOKE!!!

What about a gift/Kithcheny shop? Dont think theres anywhere in the town that specialises in kitchen stuff like quirky aprons, tea cosies, storage jars etc....

    1. Burtons/River Island/Next/ anywhere that doesn't charge extortionate prices

    2. A Burger King/Pizza Hut etc in the town centre - under the cinema for example

    3. A niteclub which doesn't smell of vomit, doesn't charge you €13 just to be in there for two hours and one which the minimum price for a drink after 12 is less than €5 - in fact competition of any sort to break up the cartel

    4. Boots

    5. Disagree with the electronics suggestion - Slowey's on the main street has never failed me, fair enough it has a small selection, but there is always Hayes/Argos

    6. Jackie's Barbers on College Street isn't too bad from my experience

Because of chain stores every town in Ireland is exactly the same and Penneys would be great but would probably take business from the independant stores causing them to close hense more chains open and before you know it you could just as easily be in Navan as Cavan.

(have to admit if a Starbucks or a Costa opened I might cry tears of joy into my grande soy latte though);)

Someone mentioned a Smyths toy store - there is one, at supervalu, KFC and heatons on the N3

Would be handy to have the fast food restaurants in town instead of out on the Dublin road- for the younger people who don't drive.:pac:

On the plus side, Dunnes in Cavan is one of the best dunnes around both the hardware and drapery - even if the drapery smells like an old peoples home.

incorrect. It's toymaster. A rather poor one at that.

There were 2 at one stage one beside xtravision and one up beside tescos stock was fairly overpriced so they didn't do much business. dont think there's a strong enough market for another to open any time soon.

We seriously need a club with indie or alternative (and I don’t mean feckin death metal) music. The last time I paid €13 for the privilege of going into the imperial they played 4 venga boys songs, the gambler and basically the same sh*t they played in the springs in 1998 with the occasional more recent song. The Farnham isn’t much better. I could put up with the general state of the night clubs and being knee deep in minors if you could dance away to the stone roses or the pixies or the doors or anything that’s not testo based. (Rant over)
On a milder note I agree with not getting in starbucks or boots, a town like Cavan is much better off with local businesses, ones in which the jobs they create aren’t at the whim of regional/ national profit margins.
The town council needs to get on board too. I’ve seen it done in other places where they convince empty store holders to drop the rent for potential business until they get off the ground and then they go back to normal rates once there’s a client base. To me anyway, it would make sense to have any rent coming in on a property event if its low for a while, then to have it empty and possibly costing you money.
p.s. afaik the situation in the hospital is largely due to the government deciding that Monaghan doesn’t need a proper one of its own

completely agree but if it could do a mix of the indie/metal it'd be perfect...

in all fairness there isn't demand enough for a indie club on it's own but with metal/rock/indie it could do ok...

really wish there was one because i could see myself becoming a regular in no time if they had cheap pints and a decent crowd most weekends

Theres several chippers in town and I'd prefer them to the likes of McDonalds.

I can't see there being much demand for a club that plays the likes of the Pixies sadly. I'd probably rather hear Dance/Hip-Hop on a night out anyway but the songs should be better. It's not that hard to have music that's both good and that people will have heard of. I mean the Gambler FFS.

was home last weekend and was told we were getting a boots...any one know if this is true?

Think the thing i'd like most in town would be a penny's and a decent girl clothing shop....think id cry with joy if we got a new look or awear.

Also what is the deal with the 3 sweet shops/slushy/milkshake shops in town...there is noway there is enough people to need that and not enough to have 3 nightclubs

the boots is plannned in the dunnes stores accross from the white star , its there drapery store , and it'll never get here if the local business owner have there way , bunch of idiots , l see cavan doesn't need a superstore (or something very similar) posters on shop doors , cavan definitaly does need a boots or something like it in the town as local shop prices are far too high and they are afraid of losing that , l know loads who want a boots and have wanted one for ages , a KFC of MacD's will never get into the town center either because of this very reason , pressure from local businesses stopped it happening ,

Cavan badly needs a decent petshop, so far all I've found is a small one in the pet hospital and one called "pet shop and saddlery" which was useless.

I recently wanted a pair of new trainers (not the sporty type you wear running or to the gym) but something you would wear with a pair of jeans to the pub on a Saturday night ... no chance. My only option was to go to blanch, which I did in less then 60min on the new road.
I would'nt do a return journey of 2 hours just for something to put on my feet. Think carbon footprint.

a business directory for Cavan - it's already been done, and didn't work
    http://cavanbusiness.com/

most businesses in Cavan spend little or no time promoting themselves online, of the ones that do, some do it quit well - but a business directory for them ain't gonna make a big difference
