Were you one of the ones who charged the gates? I'm fairly sure they're the ones he's talking about.

Isnt it the definition of fascism to try to get your political way by force?
We wouldnt have a nation if we hadn't. Goes for pretty much every nation on earth at one time or another.

If people across the globe hadn't tried to get their political way by force, we'd be still ruled by inbred ponces with bad wigs. Oh wait.... Doh! :D

This isnt the far left, it looks more like the far right in some ways....
Far left, far right, it doesnt seem to matter. It's when the middle falls in behind them troubles a brewing. It's not near that in this country. I would be surprised if it ever gets to that point.

Peaceful mass protest? I dunno if marches will do it. One day mass strikes? Maybe, but too much economic fallout.

I reckon a mass refusal to pay a certain tax(which one is the question though) would send a clear message to the power structure in this country that the people demand real change. Not in the party in power, because I honestly cant see that making any diff. Change to the very structure of the political system is whats needed. Some way to leave parish pump politics behind for a start.

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

Watch Sky News much??? We say no to NAMA & the world falls apart :D

I dont watch Sky news at all actually .. BBC and Bloomberg. I work in the city of London trying to turnaround distressed corporations who are about to fold because of this economic crisis. I think I have a fairly good idea about whats going on in the economy .. do you? Or are you just some idiot who thinks he knows better than every goverment in the world? Do you remember what happened last time a bank failed? Do you realize that Ireland along with Greece, Portugal and Spain are the cause of a destableized eurozone economy that threatens to push the whole world into a double dip recession thats potentially worse than the first? Did you see what happened on the Dow Jones and the FTSE last week?

This problem wasnt caused by bankers .. it was caused by every joe soap in the western world spending more money than he had .. The banks were just stupid enough to lend it to people who couldnt afford to pay it back. Its that simple .. its not about deriviatives, CDO's, LIBOR or any of that bull that you hear people going on about .. People need to take some personal responsibility. Makes me sick how people in Greece are rioting .. People living in a blooming holiday camp and now they have to rough it for a while so they would rather somebody else pays for their mistakes rather than get themselves out of their own mess. 1 million people working in public services out of a population of 11 million .. thats more than France which has a population of 70 million. 14 - 16 months pay and unbelieveable job security + benefits and they are rioting! People need to wake up and start living in the real world

They may have temporarily outnumbered AGS on at the time, but they didn't outnumber a full garrison of armed military police stationed in Leinster House & Government buildings who are tasked to protect the place, and they've a very robust mandate to do so too.

So why jostle with the police in the first place? They had no business attacking members of the police force who were just trying to do their job. I agree I think the police should have deployed the full riot squad

The real sad part is that the Gardi at the Dail (and elsewhere) are also feeling the cost of the financial cock-ups of our FF government.

Deploy the riot squad? No, that would have been an overreaction and displayed that there was no confidence in the Gardi to curtail the actions of a few - which is what clearly they were able to do to their credit.
Attack the Gardi? I suspect not. The aggressive few decided I guess to try a stunt of pushing forwards into the property grounds and the Gardi intersected and placed themselves between the building and the more aggressive angry lot.

The Gardi despite their possible personal feelings for the daily wasters inside, did their duty, end of story on that.

some good footage from the protest and "storm in a tea cup" incident

the guy getting treated by his doting other half at the end of the clip appears to have been struck on the head at 5.06 by one of his fellow supporters.

hope the missus gave him another clip around the ear when he got home for acting the maggot :)

You have a point to your credit.
Funny however it took them that long to actually discover it.
9.29pm "news just in..." by the tv newscaster. Nothing about accuracy this time.

While I completely agree with your point, perhaps you need to recheck those figures!

France in 1999, according to this wikipedia article had over 1.6 million people in the civil service, never mind the whole public service!

No. Have you been taking political definitions from the Randian overlords over on politics.ie?

a governmental system led by a dictator having complete power, forcibly suppressing opposition and criticism, regimenting all industry, commerce, etc., and emphasizing an aggressive nationalism and often racism.

Fair play to the protesters. The government need reminding that people will no longer stand idly by. If it takes a "storm in a teacup every so often, then it's all good.

Boyd Barret is a clown. Him and his cronies will protest over anything. They hate everything about a free society unless its agrees with their warped socialist agenda.

Well I generally find it interchangeable with the word 'delusional', but if they keep that nonsense up it certainly will be a bad word.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,727 ✭✭✭Nozebleed

its about time!! if the people of this country don't join in protest now nothing will change in this country. well done to all who went marching to dail eireann last night. you have my full support.

the only thing that little mini riot achieved was to probably add another few basis points to the cost of Irish Sovereign Debt and the cost at which irish banks borrow.

it also gave the Brits a chance to gloat and exaggerate the whole episode (i'm talking about the sky news report)

Well done lads you just wasted even more of our money.

We'll all have a voice soon when the next election comes.

Anyone want to organise a counter protest for next week?
I'm going to get banners that say "Responsibility and "STFU Hippy"

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,945 ✭✭✭D-Generate

Does anyone have a link to any of the fiscal policies proposed by the groups there? Without reading them I am forced to make the opinion that they wouldn't have the first clue how to keep a capitalist state running. In fact I imagine they probably hold North Korea as an ideal for isolating itself from the big bad world of capitalism.

Well done to the Gardai. I have disagreed with them before but fair play to them for defending the stronghold of democracy in Ireland. They may not be the government that I and other people want but they were elected by us the people and if there was another protest as above I would be there with the Gardai.

Actually, in the real world, it didn't.

Actually, in the real world, it didn't.

All it did was give the usual hard left mongoes an excuse for their thug behaviour. Outnumbering and attacking gardai on duty - wooo, that'll fix everything.

Actually, in the real world, it didn't.

I havent been able to check on this computer today but really no movement at all ?
it must have spooked the markets a little

    So they achieved nothing then:D

As frustrated as I am with this government. Nobody will ever persuade me to protest against them if it means marching under a Socialist Workers Party banner.

If these guys want any real support they need to stop trying to advertise themselves.

Come up with a clear message that people can identify with and don't associate it with any party or union. If you manage to force an election, then worry about your own publicity.

Disgusting to see our police forces draw batons and use them on people in this way. Funny how you don't see them baton charging the taxi drivers when they decide to block up the countries main streets for little or no reason.

"Every Joe soap spending more money than they had"...have you got proof of this or is it just the popular thing to say? I lived well within my means on my below average industrial wage for the last 10 years so don't tar everyone with the same brush.

I despise the socialist wanker and everything they stand for, but still, fair play to them for doing something. Certianly beats anonymously complaining about the government on the internet anyway.
