    Greetings and salutations,

Feedback regarding the site. Feature wise, design wise, layout, structure, colour scheme. Anything you can think of.

    Stuff down the line...
Proper Player List possibly linked to user profiles etc,
New URL with the idea of launching under a new name which isn't SF specfic (That's very down the line though)

I'd like the random interviews to be a little more in depth. (I know that's nothing to do with the site itself, but)...

What about some form of short podcast?

A section for inferno/ dragonslayer rankings?

I think the main thing at this point is more content. More regular, I go to SF.ie every day at this point and I hate when there's nothing new on it :D

I think those of us involved in the filming of tournaments should try and formalise it a little, how the videos are made, what channels etc. Might stream line it a bit (for example, the brianvondoom channel has some international subs that fighting games ireland doesn't. I'd rather new vids posted on fighting games for obvious reasons but then we'd lose these people).

We could then brand and intro the vids for SF.ie too, bringing more people into the community.

Also, Guile should be on the front page, standing on Bisons bleeding and twitching corpse.

I dunno if there's a convenient way of doing it, but it'd be cool if you could click on someone's name in the player list and you could get a list of any matches they've played in that are uploaded to YouTube. Obviously the tagging would need to be done manually which could be a bit of a pain, but you could encourage people to tag themselves on the SF.ie site any time they find a video of themselves on YT!

    Very good idea Vyze.

All for podcasts too. Always good fun to do and listen to.

One way would be for someone to create their own playlist of themselves which they could send to one of the guys in SF.ie.

That'd mean it's up to the players themselves to maintain the playlist though.

Yeah I have done a rake for boards in the past.

Might be fun to do one for the run in before each tournament or something.

I'd say drunkenly after a tournament would be even better.

A non-street fighter, but fighting game related URL. But you'd probably need people to work on content for the other games. Having videos taken from the source as opposed to cameras on tripods would be better, but that's obviously something that would need to be paid for, just better quality.

Forums@boards.ie button on the top just annoys me from a design perspective cause it's so much bigger than the rest, just make it say 'Forum'. Same with player list and contact us. Players and Contact would be grand, but that's just me, obviously not that big of a deal.

I would say not having a forum on boards. But that's cause I don't like boards and it would look better if the forum stayed in the same sort of colour scheme/layout/SF.ie logo on the top as opposed to changing to the boards.ie layout and look when you click.

Have a match of the week video or something on the right, but of Irish players so people can see without having to look through the site.

I'd totally bring my one though!

Podcasts are an excellent idea. Well planned and regular ones. Once every two weeks or once a month maybe. If anyone wants to do them I'll set up a section on the site.

The player interview things aren't really my area, although I do agree they'd be better if they were more in depth. Feel free to tell Orim to stop being ****. Although he'll probably read this anyway. Stop being **** Orim.

I half agree about the more content. You do need people coming back to the site daily, but its important not to overload the main page with stuff. More diverse content such as podcasts and videos etc will be good.

Perhaps it would be good to have a main page, with all the major news. Then have something like a "Community Content" section, where people can post up articles or features they have, such as "Chopper's Best Match Vids From The Month" and then any really high quality stuff from there can be put on the main page. I think this would be good if we had good, regular articles on this section. Another example would be if Ramza did regular youtube vid tutorials, then he could put them in this section with a text explanation etc.

If you have a news and content section you can always say if the content section has been updated in a little entry on the main page.

I totally agree. Having a more general URL is definitely on the cards at some point to cover other fighting games. Our own forum would be nice, although this is something we need to be careful about, as to not split the community. If the site grows to a certain size and we have a lot of people registered there / viewing it would could look into our own forums.

Having more info on different games will only attract people as there are definitely people into all the other fighting games and not necessarily into SSFIV. As for the forum, I don't know how much it would split the community up because I don't know how many people in the FG forum use the other parts of boards.ie.

I know this forum is the only reason I joined boards and never look at anything else on here. But I'm sure there are people who are similar to me but also people who were probably using boards before this section appeared. I would imagine if you are really into fighting games you're gonna post/check where the most activity is.

  • Registered Users Posts: 91 ✭✭LIFETRAP

I just noticed you have 12,0000000000000000000000 posts. You definitely were on boards before this section appeared.

For extra content, you could maybe have a form where anybody who visits the site can add a story, and then it's down to a site admin to approve it at which point it gets added to the site. That way people can throw up a story about a new MVC3 announcement or whatever without having to given the appropriate user rights to add stuff to the site as they please and without feeling like they need to be committed to adding regular content.

I know I'd be happy to write up something every now and again during quiet periods at work, but I wouldn't want the responsibility of being relied on to write regular stuff every time something happens!

Agree content needs to be quality. Also think sudividing site may be a good idea.

It's just sometimes it takes me longer to load the page than read the interviews :D

So in on the podcasts. I do think they should be monthly though as do we really have enough... stuff to fill a bi weekly? I'm so in by the way.

  • Registered Users Posts: 91 ✭✭LIFETRAP

Yeah, and stuff will be updated quicker. I'm sure most people check EventHubs, iPW, SRK and like pretty regularly so if something is announced it could be up on SF.ie pretty quickly.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,971 ✭✭✭Orim

The Knowing Me Knowing You section is more for profiles at the moment. I wanted to keep it relatively small and simple. I will do proper interviews with people coming up to tournaments etc

Also there has been new content everyday. Just saying. :pac:

Personally I don't see the need for a new URL. It's nice short memorable URL (it also has the nice shortened sf.ie). As long as we put content for other games then I don't see the issue.

  • Registered Users Posts: 567 ✭✭✭Vyze

When you click on the Search textbox it should clear the field, rather than my having to delete the "Search" text manually.

I think bi-weekly podcasts would be too often, is there really that much to talk about?

The edit: problem with calling the site "sf.ie" when talking about it is that new people might think that's the real URL and get confused when it doesn't work! :D

There's plenty of people who were just passing by who are now posters here.

Me included. I was totally out of fighting games.

Boards strength with reference to fg in Ireland is the passing trade. A forum on SF.ie could be great and highly specialised but you'd never, ever get the randomers boards will pick up. And if I did it I am sure others did too.

We don't get rid of the old one, we use two and one redirects. Problem solved. :)

That's a technical way to solve the problem. But my question is What is the problem?

People have said they want a general URL. Name a URL that has the snap of streetfighter.ie? Also I believe that there isn't an Irish player base out there for other games to justify the change. It just seems pedantic and pointless to me, not to mention it being a needless expense.

Vyze I get what your saying about the shortening but people don't seem to have issues with SRK. It's a shame we can't register sf.ie.

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,005 ✭✭✭✭chopperbyrne

www.fightinggames.ie doesn't appear to be registered.

    A bit bland though.

put srk into google and you get the website, put sf.ie into it and your going to san francisco to learn english

plus I think the website is geared almost completely to street fighter. tekken blazblue mvc etc and players that are exclusive to these games would take a quick look and be gone!!

How often do people call it SRK.com as opposed to just SRK? Using a domain extension as part of the name implies that you're reading the full URL.

tickthrow.ie is probably free. Only .com and .org were taken on a search I tried a little while ago, but it didn't list .ie domains.

  • Registered Users Posts: 220 ✭✭meducation

a podcast would be great even it was monthly or every 2 months or something..
the site is savage all the same and i think the play list for players names is a great idea, even just a link to your youtube accounts

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,169 ✭✭✭Sagat06

I really like the new videos bar on the srk website if you could do that with a link to signed up users account

tickthrow.ie is a nice one. I'd vote that if we end up changing the url.

The site being geared towards street fighter isn't going to change with a name change. The vast majority of players play street fighter. There is minimal amounts of other players. Old games like Marvel don't seem have players. The soul calibur player base has given up. Tekken players a) have zaibatsu and seem happy there / b) they are learning street fighter.

Blazblue has probably got the biggest playerbase of any non streetfighter and you can still count them on one hand.

This all opinion but I don't think I'd be far wrong.

www.srk.com is some engineering consultancy firm. www.shoryuken.com is shortened to SRK all the time, but the URL remains the original one.
