So what? As far as I can tell your complaints about that were about one specific person. I've gone up to two separate groups of Tekken players in the past in the XGC and both have been happy to have a chat and come over and watch SF for a while - now a good few of them have bought fightpads too and one of the guys yesterday was inquiring about buying a stick.

I wasn't referring to you running the tournament, nor was I replying to you...notice I quoted Orim. :pac:

I don't see any branding potential behind the name Inferno for the umberalla term. I mean as far as I can tell the only people that are aware/ would use the inferno name are those of us that have been here for a while and are in on the joke of the name.

I'm not saying we ditch the name. I think it's a great name for the tournaments and it's a great way to distinguish our tournaments from other tournaments.

To once again bring it back to a wrestling comparsion, I would see the Inferno as being our Raw. It's a great name for what it is but we still need our WWE umbrella term.

I believe that a non region specific, non game specific name is the way forward. You create a brand that you make synonymous with The irish fighting game scene rather than just call yourself that.

Now it doesn't have to be "Inferno", but we have a bit of a base on that and inferno as a concept is fairly maleable and I'm sure creative types could have fun with it. There's is probably better out there.

Neo empire comes from Empire arcadia or something I think, but it's origins aren't import, what it stands for, the UK scene, is. Or How about the New Exceed startup. Or Electric Dojo. all good names in my opinion.
    EVO, Tougeki/Super Battle Opera similarly.

SRK and say Oz Hadou, obviously are game specific names but don't feel exclusionist. Tekken Zaibatzu, smashboards and streetfighter.ie Do.

    Again FightingGamesIreland.ie? Or FGI.ie no?

What do you mean by non region specific?

Just fyi, posting in Ireland, there is no such thing as freedom of speech on the internet. Anyone who thinks there is does not grasp the situation.

Whatever the case may be regarding that, whatever level of freedom of speech we have, is significantly reduced on this site versus the level it'd be at if we had our own forums.

Imo boards is absolutely fine for the foreseeable future, it actually provides a good infrastructure and larger irish community for us to be automatically a part of.

All seems a bit Politically correct to me, renaming the site so as not to exclude fans of other games.

streetfighter.ie is a great name, and Streetfighter is synonymous with the genre, like it or not.

TBH is someone had the opinion that they didn't want to be part of a community because the site wasn't generic or named after a game they didn't like then are they really the type of person you'd want to be part of that community in the first place?

It reminds me of GAA elitists who get very hot under the collar when you refer to the premiership as football.
"That's not football, it's soccer bhoy!!"

It is f**king football, just a different type to the one you're used too.

I totally agree man I'm not talking about getting a new forum now or anytime soon.

& good point Paul I do agree there alright.

My reasons for thinking name change, and I'm not pushing for it mind you, would be more to do with having an original name/logo and not something from straight from capcom.

Again , I'm not pushing it, I'm pretty happy with things right now.

Wow, never been accused of being politically correct before.

    Regards "teh future"

Super is out, Ono says no turbo (we'll see) and MvC is more niche. What big push are you expecting?
It's quite possible we're around our peak.

Super Battle Opera is a good name, so I've been trying to get someone to run a tourney called MEGA HYPE CONCERTO for a while... nobody else likes the name. :(

Also the issue with the name isn't so much that people won't visit a site named after SF if they don't play the game, it's that if you happen upon the site when looking for Irish fighting gamers for another game, a lot of people won't even click on the link by assuming it's just for SF. How many of you would check out ArcanaHeart.ie if it showed up in Google and you weren't looking for animu kiddie porn? :pac:
Since we post here we know that it'll cover more, but someone who isn't aware of it may not check it out.

Oh, and SFIE is a lot better when typed than sf.ie, since it's clearly an abbreviation as opposed to an invalid URL. Plus "ssfee" is a funny sound to make!
