Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

So Im just after watching Iron Man (the 1st one) and I started thinking to myself has anyone actually tried to be a super hero before (we all know about the vigilantes such as the IRA and RAAD, but those guys have a other reasons for doing what they do).. but has there ever been just some real do gooder out there who has attempted such a thing.

This topic has probally been covered a million times but hay Im bored, what do you think is it even possible??

The film Unbreakable with Bruce Willis kinda shows what a super hero would be like in real life (to an extent). He works, has a family and when he's fighting bad guys he has no guile at all, much more raw than Superman/Batman. Having said that he does seem to have some super powers which isn't so lifelike.

The Dark Knight also shows a realistic side to wannabe crime fighters - that is, people wearing hockey pads and then getting killed without really accomplishing anything.

    Mayor: Oh My.
Doctor: Probably from rolling around in that Toxic waste. What in God's name were you trying to prove?
Mayor: I was trying to gain super powers.
    Doctor: Well that's just silly.
Mayor: Silly yes ... Idiotic ... yes.!

    Hi there.

All joking aside, the Real Life Super Hero movement (also known as Extreme Altruism / X-Alt) is huge in America and getting big in the UK. I've started doing it around Dublin myself these last few months (yes, seriously, please hear me out!). I think it's a really effective way of doing things and volunteering in the community. I've done quite a bit in relation to anti social behavior, drunken hassle outside local chippers etc and the reaction from people has been generally positive.

Anyone got any thoughts about getting involved?

    What's your costume?!

Combat boots, camouflage combats, an assault vest for carrying my kit, a cape, a balaclava and a beret. Simple and relatively inexpensive to put together but looks the part and is functional.

Some fella in Seattle, running around in a black and yellow costume trying to break up bar fights but actually causing more of them.

Think the cool aspect of being a superhero is the anonymity. We're not meant to know who they are and that they are not after the fame or glory. When we know who they are, they are just gobsh*tes

That english ninja who patrols his local town at night with a rubber foam sword. He once stopped some youths from bothering a swan by growling at them.
