Collins Avenue could be described as an "Orbital Route" - Finglas to Killester
Technically speaking Collins Avenue starts (or finishes) at the junction of the Howth Road and takes in areas like Donnecarney, Glasneven and Ballymun.
Re the subject of Collins Avenue it is interesting the placing of the street names. Collins Avenue runs parallel to Griffith Avenue. Arthur Griffiths old house for anyone who is interested is located on St Lawrence's Road.

Spitalfields is one f the only roads in Dublin I know that doens't have a sign post with the name on it.
I might have to disagree with you there Gavin. Unless things have changed since this pic was taken (Feb 2008) the name plate for Spitalfields can just be seen above the window in the centre building. (Parish Centre of St Nicolas of Myra in background). If I'm in the area this week, I'll take a closer pic.

Incidently, I've never seen name plates on Pig Lane, Great Longford Street or Little Longford Street.

Before O'Connell Street was Sackville Street it was known as Drogheda Street - named after the local land owner Henry Moore, Earl of Drogheda.

His name gives us Henry St, Moore St, Earl St and apparently there is/was an 'Of Lane' around there too to complete the set!

In the opposite end of the spectrum “Church Street” is the most common name.
Can you name all the streets in Dublin named after a county in Ireland?

    Meath St, D8
    Wicklow St, D2
    Wexford St, D2
    Cork St, D8
    Kildare St, D2
    Great Longford St, D2
    Little Longford St, D2
    Offaly Road in Cabra
    Armagh Road in Crumlin
    Derry Road in Crumlin
and Fingal St in Dolphins Barn & Rathdown Road in Cabra ;)

also there's a right of way beside The Gasworks pub of the grand canal hotel and apparently it's called Leitrim Place.

no man has the right to fix the boundary of a nation inscribed on Parnell's statue. he is pointing to the Parnell Mooney. WIki wont tell you that :D

I always assumed the name originated from the Jewish community who settled around ClanbrassilSt/SCR in the late 19th/early 20th century. Could be very wrong though! Love the history of the area :)

Re the statues on O'Connell street you can see the bullet holes from the sixteen rising in the O'Connell statue.
Very interesting how the place names and statues are so linked with the history of the city.
Clontarf and Fairview very much linked to Brian Boru with names like Brian Boru Street, Brian Road while Killester and Clontarf linked with Collins and Griffith.

Somali Village in Howth, named because allegedly the houses on the side of the hill look tall and slender like Somalians.
