I have been working in ireland since finishing college and im sick of it, I work in a permanent job in the lab of a major pharma company and earn close to 40k

I know alot of people will say I am mad to think about doing this but I have no mortgage,no wife/girlfriend,children/dependents to speak of,all my friends have settled down and I rarely see them, basically there is nothing here for me and im sick of the same boring old routine.

I am 32 now and I dont want another few years to pass by without doing something in my life, because im 32 I dont really have the option of the 1 year working visa so I will have to go another route.

Im I mad, can someone please advise me? I have a brother over in AUS, he has been in brisbane for the past 4 years and is moving to melbourne soon

    DO IT!

I'm in the same boat, although I took a year out on 2008 and traveled the world already, I'm thinking of heading back to Aus as there is nothing in Ireland (or UK where I am now) that interests me..

I'm 30 now and even though my friends are all settled I don't get the urge to do likewise.. your life is what you make of it..

Jeez guys, read the title of the OP's post, he wants to know his options to get here.
OP check out the SOL to see if your occupation is on it.

You are too old for a WHV, is there any way your brother can sponsor you? Is he a permanent resident?

I'm 28, unemployed since February 2009 and have just booked my one-way ticket to NZ as I have been successful in getting a Permanent Residence Visa for there.
If , however I was in your shoes, I wouldn't even think of leaving. Solid job, good wages, no ties, believe me your situation isn't as bad as it sounds, not by a long shot.

i'm thinking the same except i'll be taking a wife and one year old daughter. Kind of reached the glass ceiling in work and from looking on job sites there seems to be allot more potential for my kind of work. Just trying to organise a few potential before i make a decision.

You don't say how long you've been in your company but is it possible to take a career break? There are various visas, especially in your field.

The one I am one for example, I came out on a 2 to 3 year sponsored 457 visa and start my PR application soon. I am in a remote area for that time and under the terms, have to do 3 years in country area to transfer to PR from my visa.
Now when I say country... I'm 4.5 hours drive to the next thing. 16 hours drive from the city.
There's plenty of work in labs out here but from what I hear it's dull. We need 8 lab techs in our local mine for eg to work shifts testing soil and water quality over and over. Not sure about cities and job demand for your field.

I came out at 30 and I'm 32 now. There's lots I don't like and some I like, but then I haven't experienced the East yet.
I don't regret it, but I am not sure I will stay. If i could have taken a career break, I'd be going back next year. But I wasn't in my job long enough. As it is I am finding reasons to stay. I left a permanent good job back home, I know I won't get one at the moment.

If you need more info about this, I am able to assist - looking for qualified electricians/technicians for employment in Australia. I can help you get in touch with a specialist agency to get your qualifications recognised and link you up with employers in Australia - jobs postings will be done and on this site asap. contact me receptionbne@acit.edu.au THIS IS NOT A JOB ADVERT - I have just moved from Ireland to Queensland..

Depends on what your quals are and a lot of unemployed in Dub are male between 18-30 - perfect to try the 417 visa to get over here and see how you get on. Doesnt hurt, does it?

You probably have checked it out already but I'll post it here in case not: http://www.immi.gov.au/visawizard/ Its the Department of Immigration and Citizenship's wizard thingy to help point you in the right direction as to what visa would suit you based on your details (Age etc.)

The 417 or Working Holiday Visa is good option if you are between 18-30.

Or you can get sponsorship for temporary work here.

    Any work is a bonus!
