Claiming prsi

Hi, I heard today from a friend that you can claim back on your PRSI payments as well as on your tax. I didnt realise this, I have already claimed my tax but would love to know how to go about seeing if i can claim back on my prsi, Have anyone done this and how do you go about it. Many thanks

You cannot claim back Prsi however you may be able to claim back the health levy if you have paid it. Your Prsi contributions pay towards jobseekers benefit, maternity etc..

If you have non cumulative earnings under 127 a week you can reclaim any PRSI paid.

There is a form on the social welfare site.

PRSI refunds are possible (but relatively rare) if you paid PRSI in error - this can happen if you had fluctuating income which should have meant that your PRSI class (ie the percentage PRSI deduction) ought to have changed but accidentally didn't change.

You might also be able to get a refund of the Health Contribution if you paid it during the year and didn't earn above €26000 (gross pay less any pension contributions you paid) in the year.
