Saw this in the paper the other day. Is this value for money you reckon.
THE GAA is to offer rooftop walking tours of Dublin's Croke Park from early next year which will offer visitors panoramic views over the capital.

A walkway will be built on the roof of the stadium and tours will be offered from next January, costing in the region of €100.

Based on the Sydney Harbour Bridge climb, the walkway will be 35 metres above ground.

It will give visitors a bird's eye view of the capital, with uninterrupted 360 degree views of Dublin Bay, the mountains, the Spire on O'Connell Street, the Obelisk in the Phoenix Park and Liberty Hall.

The plan was announced yesterday morning as daredevil Eskil Ronningsbakken balanced on a giant, wire figure '3' some 60 metres above the ground to advertise a mobile phone company's new branding slogan "Do things you never thought possible".

He appeared at the home of the GAA to help advertise the new rooftop walking tours of Croke Park.

Around 80,000 people a year already visit the Croke Park museum, and the rooftop tours are expected to swell numbers. The GAA will shortly begin building the walkway, with a view to opening it next January.

"The walkway will be around the entire stadium, and it will take about four hours to complete the tour," a spokesman said.

"There's fairly stringent safety measures, so they have to be gone through, which will take about 30 minutes. The tour itself will be about an hour, and then two-and-a-half hours for the history of Croke Park.

"They will have to make sure people are fit and able to do it," the spokesman said. "There will be five platforms with views of Dublin and one pitchside viewing platform.

"It's the first stadium in the world to have such a tour and is modelled on the Sydney Harbour Bridge climb. The tours could be under €100, but the fee has yet to be decided and will be based on construction costs, safety equipment and the cost of stewards."

4 hours? Sounds a bit excessive and boring. They should separate the tours.

    €100 is off the wall.

Guinness Brewery is €15/ €11 for seniors and students,
with a further 10% discount if you book online. Pint of Guinness included in the skybar. Fine views of Dublin.

Full day guided tour of Wicklow, Glendalough, etc, with best views of Dublin on the way=> €20-€25,( 9am-5pm) discount for groups.

Cliffs of Moher day tour from Dublin by coach => €45(7am-8pm Return), discount for groups, etc.

Viking Splash and many many others represent far better value for tourists.

As a once off i'd probably do it for novelty value. But why start it in January? One of the coldest months of the year! It'd be very much a spring/summer attraction i'd have thought.

I've done the sydney harbour bridge walk which was around 200 aussie dollars and worth every penny so this idea has potential. the difference though (apart from the weather) is that throughout the tour you have this famous postcard views of the city, the harbour and the opera house. unfortunately i don't think Dublin has the appeal.

if dublin had any sort of skyline it might be good but as it is you'll see the spike and liberty hall......not very exciting.

Yes was thinking what exactly would we see from the Rooftop. The civic offices blocking Christchurch, a run down north inner city.
Not sure if I would fork out a 100 quid for that. Quite content to admire the Marino in the Casino from the upper stands :D

€100 is a joke, who is going to pay that? €25 tops even that puts it at more than the london eye or empire state building.

Seems a bit steep alright yeah the aussie one is $200 but that is around €100, so to be charging people that price for a grey skyline is a bit much but they said in the article less than €100.
I'd skip that 2 and a half hour history part (sweet jesus how much history does it have)
Nice dublin now has an "interactive" thing to do.
January is probabaly a good time to start as they probably dont want as theyll still get people going even if weather is shiit

Anyway i wont be doing it, that sydney bridge climb scared the shiite outta me!

I have to echo what a lot of people are say here and in real life - €100 is a joke, I certainly won't be doing it.

im guessing the powers that be have never been at the top of the rockafeller or sears in chicago. at todays rates, that would be $123 which is about $100 more then the yanks would charge, for one of the most popular cities in thw world or the 2nd largest building in the world...

€100 for a panoramic view of the Dorset St flats :D

A completely ridiculous idea, I'd be amazed if anyone took up the offer. The reason they announced it is because they wanted to be on the front page of the paper the day before the new Lansdowne Road opened, as they're obsessed with them evil British sport playing showers from Dublin.

Height and location wise, would Croke Park give you a better view of city then the Guinness building?
